Moriarty the Patriot (Yuukoku no Moriarty) is a new 2020 anime that just finished its 24 episode run in 2021, following the twisting adventure of Sherlock Holmes hot on heels of the Lord of Crime. It rents some aspects from Psycho-Pass, Code Geass, and Death Note, both for the better and worse. Dark themes, historical mania, fan service and more; is Moriarty the Patriot a good anime, or a chainsaw through everything holy?
Should you watch Moriarty the Patriot? Well, that’s a tough question. While it does share some good aspects with well received anime like Psycho-Pass, Code Geass, and Death Note, we also have to acknowledge where it falls behind those anime. Despite having a similarly rivalry to those, it also splits time between William and Sherlock, giving their interactions a lesser feel. It has a decent amount of side characters that go nowhere, and very one dimensional villains from episode to episode.
