U.S. Air Force, F-15C Eagle – 493rd Fighter Squadron pilots conduct a training scramble to see how fast they can get into the air over Iceland. Icelandic Air Policing is a peacetime collective defensive mission by NATO that safeguards the integrity of Iceland’s airspace. Since Iceland is a member of NATO and has no air force, air force capable NATO members take turns on a rotating schedule during the year to protect the skies over Iceland.
