RX-78GP01「ガンダムGP01 ゼフィランサス」「ガンダムGP01 ゼフィランサス」は、一年戦争終結後に実施された連邦軍とアナハイム・エレクトロニクスによる極秘プロジェクト”ガンダム開発計画”に基づいて開発された”汎用型MS”の重力下仕様機である。この機体は、パイロット及び戦闘データなどの生産率向上のため、コア・ブロック・システムを採用している。また、RX-78ガンダムにおいて問題となっていた腹部の構造的な脆弱さを補うため、コア・ブロックの構造や配置などが変更されている。U.C.0083年10月13日。”連邦軍再建計画”の一環として極秘裡にスタートした「ガンダム開発計画」を察知したジオン公国軍残党のデラーズ・フリートは「星の屑作戦」を決行。偶然その場に居合わせた連邦運パイロット、コウ・ウラキはガンダムGP01に乗り込み追撃する・・・・。
