After many months of blood sweat and tears, I can finally present to everyone [I]NTEGRATE. Serial Experiments Lain is quite a weird show, but one with a lot of themes I find very important in today’s day and age, and particularly, to myself.
Connection is a big part of the human experience, and this is the ultimate idea that Serial Experiments Lain explores. While important to how we operate as individuals, connection means something different to all of us and comes in many different forms. It can be romantic, platonic, physical, or even virtual. No matter the type of connection, it plays equally important roles in our brains.
At the start of “WE.ird” we begin with a chant to lure you into what’s to come, then into “NULL” to immediately throw you into the chaos of diverging personalities, then we transition into “[I]NTEGRATE” itself to give into the allure of community, and then ending with “shell” to realize we sometimes still feel alone despite our best efforts. All of this to say that connection does not come so easy to all of us and it is something we often take for granted.
Thank you to all of you who have taken the time to listen to this project. I consider it my best work to date, and I am full of ideas for the next big full length album to come.
It doesn’t have to feel so empty.
