By the end of 1967 The Beatles had stopped touring, had released perhaps their most iconic album, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, lost their manager Brian Epstein to a drug overdose , and had their first major flop with the film Magical Mystery Tour. Where do you go from there? They decided to take a two-month trip to India. In the summer of 1967, they spent time with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi when he was visiting England.
Between February and April of 1968, The Beatles along with their respective girlfriends and wives, stayed in Rishikesh, India. While in India taking a transcendental meditation course with the Maharishi, they wrote over forty songs. This batch of songs became the basis for their next studio effort.
This, of course became their self-titled album otherwise known as The White Album.
