That Anime Show: New Panty And Stocking With Garterbelt Episode 5
What’s going on, guys? Welcome to another episode review for Penny and Stocking season 2. Uh, this is episode five and with me as always, I have Blues Spade. Yeah. Um, little I don’t know, it’s not as crazy as the last two episodes were. Uh, in terms of, of course, what was their final skits? Um, the first two skits, um, kind of got off into a little bit bit of a weird start. Uh the first skit mainly focused on uh the demon sisters in which um okay so what happened was uh oh what was it I think Scandi was the one she went over to use the toilet and then all of a sudden um what was it and her sister uh is taking a bath. What what happens afterwards? Like there’s this huge storm or cyclone or hurricane that strikes the city and they notice like all a lot of the buildings have been turned into, you know, into sashimi or sushi uh nigiri sushi uh for however that’s possible. And they find out that it’s a you know that it’s a giant ghost of a restless sushi chef. So, they tried to solve this by getting an actual sushi chef from a restaurant, which uh this uh chef ends up criticizing the ghost, which only make makes these things even worse by I think I think this ghost ended up killing this guy or I don’t know if that really was the case. Yeah. Uh but you know it gets to the point where you know it gets even worse with a scanny like uh like she she’s been lit literally holding it in for much of the episode because like she’s afraid to defecate in public but you know she she couldn’t hold it in much longer until like you know she finally lets it out and um and somehow that gives her like some kind of a power like power boost or something. Yeah. power boosted pretty much like her and her sister end up destroying the the sushi chef ghost and pretty much like taking down the hurricane and I guess in a way things get back to normal afterwards. So that’s that’s it with that one. Next episode kind of it got I don’t know kind of gets a little bit confusing uh like even after the episode that skit was done. So Penny and Stalking find the ghost of an abandoned pet turtle which turned like kind of talks like you know if he was from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in a way. So just when they were about to kill this uh ghost turtle, Garter Belt comes in and takes pity on this thing and it starts decides to adopt it. But what happens is is like this ghost end up ends up possessing him and it transforms him into like into a giant sized kaiju turtle thing, whatever that is. And then um he starts um okay and things get weird from there. He starts uh laying eggs by I guess it you know like it creates legions of clones or copies of himself which causes havoc and chaos in the city which you know and then of course Penny and Stalking just immediately just uh take him down. But they find that, you know, they explain that a Garter belt turned to normal after they ended up killing the ghost. And then soon soon afterwards, I think um well, they they kind of imply that there I I guess there still is like a turtle ghost or something or or I guess one of the uh the babies are still around. Yeah. And like Well, I think what was it? Py finds another egg, but finds out that that it would just it just an actual like golf ball instead. So, she throws it, but then it lands next to another egg, which turns out to be another garter belt uh clone, but it turns out it’s it’s a platypus now, and the episode just ends ends off in this, you know, in a cliffhanger. And I mean, I could assume like they also took care of that, but then like, you know, they just don’t really Yeah. I mean, explain it. I mean, all of them are kind of like they seem to mo at least Well, I Well, I I guess I don’t know. I guess they’re not self-contained because they actually referenced uh the skit from one of the previous episodes about them adopting the cat. So, I I guess in a way like some things seem to carry over into other uh other segments. Um, but yeah, like like you know, m making some references to what happened in uh in other episodes and other skits in particular. But of course, like if if we were talking about like the more outlandish ones, like you know that whole like Hana Barbara Yeah. crossover, whatever that thing was. Uh, okay. So, so the last one I think it was like one of the better better ones. Uh, I would say taking up like half the episode. it mainly foes. It’s It’s more of a spoof of like, you know, of those like old classic slasher horror films. Yeah, I I I I mean, I could talk a little bit more about this. So, uh a lot of I think the direct references are going to fly over a lot of the people’s head with this one because like Yeah, it’s I guess most people could just see it as like, yeah, it’s just it’s a reference to slasher movies. And technically, it is. Uh so it’s more specifically like a reference to old an old subg genre of horror called the gialo genre which was popular like with Italian movies uh back in like the mostly in the 60s and the ‘7s and it was seen as like a precursor predecessor to the uh mostly like the American slasher. Um but they all kind of have similar themes. Uh usually there’s like a black gloved killer uh running around like killing mostly killing like women. Uh but uh one of the prominent more prominent directors uh in the gi is a guy by the name of Daario Arento which I was kind of shocked they like actually have a character in this episode that is called Daario and he looks exactly like well you know like a cartoon version of him but it looks looks like the actual guy. Um and there’s actually like a direct reference to one of the movies he’s did he’s probably most known for which is called Sesperia. Uh so like there’s a lot of that in in this in this segment. So, I was kind of shocked uh that a lot of that was in here. Uh but yeah, like the this is I would say it’s actually like probably the most straightforward and not as maybe not as weird one uh like skits out of all the other skits. Uh because like a lot of it just focuses on like I guess this mystery of uh of these uh I I think it’s specifically like these blonde women that kind of like resemble uh panty that are like who are being killed off and they don’t they’re trying to figure out like who the killer is. Um, and uh that so the Daario and these uh I guess police officers take Panty into like I guess some kind of protective custody uh where she’s staying with all these other blonde women that kind of also resemble her. Uh, and I I guess they’re there to like, you know, supposedly they’re uh they’re safe from the killer there, but of course the it’s revealed the killer is, you know, is is like stalking them or, you know, is actually like hanging around that place. Yeah. And like one of the women end up Yeah. Okay. So, it’s it’s really confusing like you know how this plays out. So like one of the women gets killed by uh being killed inside of you of a Yeah. So I I think that was so I think that’s just like um sort of like paring how uh like cuz another I guess you would say staple of that genre is this is the sort of creative ways that people were killed in those movies. So I I think that’s sort of like why they decided to have like one of the girls like killed in that manner. Like oh this like this this is the most ridiculous way to kill somebody like just have like a bunch of I guess razors in a what was it like razors in in some kind of a washing machine and she’s she’s stuck in there and can’t get out. Um there there would be some crazy stuff like that in like you know the Jalo movies. So I mean I feel like it’s sort of just it’s sort of like just making fun of that. Yeah. And then uh I think Brief um ends up disguising himself as another blonde. That was the that was the really weird thing to me like that he was like for some reason just disguised as one of the blonde women. Uh but I guess he was he was doing that to sort of like to figure out who the killer actually was. which uh well so I guess the killer gets into his bedroom and well he ends up sli you know slitting his both his uh organs out and his throat which to me I thought you know they killed off this character but it turns out that wasn’t the case which it turns out like it was just using a fake knife with uh with like using like um you know uh with hot dog links as as or organs or something like that. Yeah. Yeah. So, and then and then I think I I think we get the uh well I I think it’s then like we get the reveal of like who the killer actually is. Um it’s it’s it’s the real killer is a retired Yeah. retired blonde. Yeah. Was that woman like we s we see like briefly in the beginning of the episode or well the beginning of the skit I guess. Um but apparent well also in the beginning of well yeah the beginning of the skit and also like when they first get to the house like it’s it was that woman that got killed in that one like movie uh and she basically like reveals her motivation that uh she was she was kind of like upset I guess that she got like tie cast in like all these other movies because she was just known for I guess being the uh uh you know uh just just being like a I guess one of the the kill the victims of to kill her. Um, so she it mainly like stems for her just being like upset about that. Uh, and so that’s why she decided to like I guess uh I guess do like kill people or well I guess specifically like kill like these blonde women that kind of look like her. Yeah. So, and of course the ghost that well I guess that fake killed brief uh turns out it’s it’s a manif manifestation of uh of this uh retired blonde actor’s jealousy or hatred uh towards like you know people typ casting her. Uh so she and she ends up like uh making the mistake of uh you know like berating the ghost uh for I guess not killing anyone, but the ghost ends up killing her anyway by just pretty much cleaving her in half uh down the middle. So it’s uh Yeah. So the ghost kills her and then he ends up passing on to the afterlife or something like that. Uh, so pretty much the the mis the mystery is solved and like I guess in a way like things are back to normal in some weird manner. But yeah, that’s I guess that’s that’s about it. It just ends ends in such a like a dark bizarre note. Uh, if anything, I guess it makes sense considering they were sort of like paring like slasher movies. Um, but yeah, I thought it was a it was a pretty good episode. Um, I I thought that the first, in my opinion, like the first kit was probably the weakest one. Uh, the second one was a little bit better. Um, but yeah, I thought I thought this the real standout was actually the last one just because I like I said, I was kind of shocked that it referenced like all the stuff it did. Um, I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised, but you know, considering they like already like referenced like the Fast and the Furious. Um, so I guess really like nothing is off limits. Uh, well, and also like, you know, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to some extent. Uh, I mean, I don’t I don’t know if it has anything to do much of Teenage Well, except for that just like one character that kind of looks like one of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Uh, yeah. I mean, well, his appearance is only brief before like it turned into a more of a kaiju and a type of spoof episode after that. Um, but yeah, I I I I thought it was an okay episode. It’s just the first two skits were kind of the weakest ones. uh other than like you know the last um you know the sl the slasher flick uh par parody it felt like the last one had a lot more like just more I guess more of a plot and it was a little like I said it was a little bit easier to like sort of understand what was going on as opposed to like the other two that were just completely there I I felt like there was trying to be as ridiculous as possible and you couldn’t really like I mean you you still could figure out what was happening but it was just it was just like it felt like you know it was just like one ridiculous thing after the other but I mean that’s kind of like and how the show has been so far is is just like, you know, how how crazy can can it get uh with a lot of like the skits. Yeah. Yeah. I I I definitely like the, you know, the third skit in this episode. I thought it was more it it was more like uh I can’t say self-contained. It’s it it’s at least, you know, it’s it’s not, you know, ridiculous to the point where, you know, you just tune yourself out just to accept something. Well, I I think like the the Hannah Bara parody in the uh the previous episode was like I I think that was the one that I just like completely like you said. Yeah. You couldn’t really follow it at some point. It’s just like that’s kind of how I felt about a lot of it. And it’s like I mean it just felt like you know that was the most like out of just completely insane one. Yeah. Uh but yeah, it’s like I said okay episode. Uh the first two skits were like were kind of the weakest uh weakest ones I guess you know for the season in particular. It’s just like you know the last the last half I think were was the strongest one with the you know with the whole serial killer thing. Yeah definitely. Uh but yeah guys uh so that all being said um until next time we will see you all
