Hey everyone, what’s up and welcome back to City the Animation. Last week we had one of the most insane episodes, not just of this show, but just of anime ever. It was it was crazy. Not because of the plot necessarily, but because the show the the animation animation studio did something insane. I mean, they did several things in Zane, but the main thing was that they animated so much different stuff in like se lines all at the same time, all on a split screen. And then there was a big party and there was just like all these blobs that were coming together to show the whole spread to represent like a a huge, you know, a huge spread on uh from the manga. It was just it was insane. It was like an absolutely insane um adaptation of it. It was just crazy. Like what studio can do that? And then on top of that, there was also like they had a real life model of the building and like stop motion animation and that stuff like all of this stuff in the same episode. It was crazy. And on top of that, it was a very funny and great episode. So, um I can’t wait to jump into more of this show. I I need to see what other insane stuff is going to happen. Although I I I feel like you can’t do that stuff again, you know? Like I feel like they I I don’t know. Like I feel like you’d put all your effort into that one episode if you were to um if if you were to want to really impress people. So I’m not expecting them to do something crazy like that again. But I am expecting the show to continue to be good. I mean, the show was already phenomenal even without any of that stuff, which is why it kind of blew my mind. like you didn’t need to do that, but I appreciate it so much. And when I hear that, then I will pump kill it. Hideoshi. Good on you, dub for the pumpkill joke. She’s done with the role play. Listen to me already. She needs to tell you something. Oh, she knows. Oh, this is really sad. That’s That’s really [ __ ] sad. Are you kidding me? What the [ __ ] Oh, no. after all that, like I was going to say like this episode um like at the start I was well at the start of this discussion I was going to talk about how this episode might have been one of my worst reactions in terms of like adding much to the reaction because um the episode this episode was so so many like absurd bits. I mean, I know it feels strange saying that in in a show that like this show is like almost 100% absurd bits, but um but even more than normal, this show was absurd bits. Um, this episode rather was absurd bits and um and so like there was so much absurdity going on and um and just yeah like ridiculousness that was most of the humor was coming from it being like just a weird thing that’s happening on screen that I was laughing a lot and I was enjoying it but at the same time I wasn’t like I didn’t there was no room for me to say anything. There was no room for me to fully react to the stuff. But then they end the episode like that, which I mean I’m relieved about because it gives me something extra to talk about in this in this episode. But I’m sad about because that’s really [ __ ] sad. I love Etchan and her friend. I never remember her friend’s name. Um uh is it Matsuri? Is Matsuri her friend? I’ve I’ve got the the credits were up and I just saw the name Matsuri. Um and I’m trying to figure out if that’s if that’s who her friend was. Yeah. Okay. Matsuri. Yeah. So Etchan and Matsuri. Um that like they tend to be some of my favorite parts of these episodes. Not even because their story lines are the funniest, but because I find them to be adorable and I really like their friendship together. Um, I mean in it’s the same, you know, in the same way that I I mean I just love the adorable characters in this show, you know, like I think th this series does really well with making very cute characters and also, you know, their gimmicks being very funny. Um, and so like I like Waco um Waco’s parts of the episode because she’s just very cute and weird, right? But then Etchan and Matsuri have like a very adorable friendship where they’re on the same wavelength. Um, and they also like, you know, they’re doing some sort of weird absurd bit, but I just what’s funny about it to me is them always being on the same page with it. So, um, so, you know, they’re a very special part of the episodes. So I get So because of that I’m actually emotionally attached to those two characters very very much so you know um like last episode I was talking about in the in the split screen last episode I was saying like when the episode was getting overwhelming or when there was like I didn’t know what else to do or I needed a little pickme up I would look down to Etchan and Matsuri’s little box and see them like walking in perfect sink with huge smiles on their faces cuz it all it like cheered me up. So, it’s like if I was like, “What the [ __ ] going on in the main thing?” I would just look to their little box, smile, feel comfortable, and then look back up to the main thing. Um, so yeah, I love them so much. So, this episode where like if I’m understanding it correctly, Etchan needs to tell Matsuri that she’s that she’s moving and she’s been like trying to build up the thing. Which is why they started with her like drawing the um the person kanji on her hand and then eating it because that’s like a Japanese thing of like what you do when you’re nervous. You draw the the kanji for a person and then you eat eat your fears basically. Um and uh and so like she was doing that to like build up the courage to talk to um to talk to Manser about it. Manser immediately puts on a pumpkin and starts doing a stupid pumpkin bit which Etchan took too many improv classes and can’t help but yes add to her premises which I think is very funny in itself. like the idea that like if if Matsuri starts doing a really stupid bit, Etchan can’t help herself but play along. She can’t. So that’s that in itself is very funny. It was probably their dumbest bit yet. Like it didn’t have a solid foundation, but actually by the end of it, it I actually kind of like that it was a kind of stupid bit because it really was Matsuri like grasping its straws because at the end she pulls off the thing and you see Matsur’s crying. She was using the pumpkin to cover it and also she’s trying to distract Edchan cuz she didn’t want to have the conversation because it’s really sad. That’s really sad. Like that’s that’s so sad. Um so like but I love it. That’s really good writing. It’s a great moment. Um but I just Yeah, it it hurt. It hurt a lot. I liked the start of the episode that had like the whole family and then the mother is like trying to keep everyone together and um and like they’re all um you know she has like pedals to wake different people up and stuff and she’s cooking everyone their food and trying to stop like it seems like her oldest daughter or whatever was like really helpful but kept breaking [ __ ] but she’s like a really sweet person or whatever. Um, and like yeah, they’re they’re just there’s so much chaos going on. The twins are constantly arguing about stuff. The son is too busy looking cool to do anything useful or whatever. Um, there’s just like a lot of really good stuff going on there. I liked hearing the um the twins like screaming at each other. There was some like I I don’t know. I feel like I I find scenes like that funny of hearing the voice actresses scream at each other as kids cuz like kids screaming at each other is like something that like in real life, you know, that can be so annoying, but in media it’s not annoying to me because the joke is that it’s annoying. So, I find it funny. Um, so yeah, it’s it’s great. I I just I like that scene a lot. Um, I can’t believe they had like the John Lennon thing. You know what I got to see? Like what’s the um what’s the Japanese? Is it Is it still John Lennon in the Japanese? Do they still say that? Like I mean I I’ll I’ll first check with subtitles on um and and see if the subtitles say something different. And I just I accidentally clicked to the start of the episode again. I had it I was on the right scene and everything and then I accidentally clicked to the start of the episode. Um the guy you you seem to believe the guy next to you is a doctor. He is John Lennon. Okay. All right. So it does say it in the subtitles. Let me listen to the audio. John, you can hear him. John Lennon. Okay. Yeah. So, it’s definitely John Lennon in this. That’s so funny. John Lennon. Okay. So, yeah, in the Japanese it is John Lennon. Um, that’s it’s it’s insane. Just that’s an insane pull to make. I mean, I didn’t think like I didn’t think it was crazy if the Japanese did have John Lennin cuz obviously if there’s going to be like a western reference that that they’re going to be able to make like the Beatles aren’t exactly obscure. So, like it makes sense that that’s that’s the sort of western reference that they could pull on. You know, it’s not like they’re referencing, I don’t know, Dual Lia or something like it’s they’re they’re referencing something incredibly famous, but or someone incredibly famous, but it’s still just very funny and kind of almost out of nowhere. It is out of nowhere to see that there. But yeah, and I loved the Eizumi’s class thing where they um where they all like I love that they all love Eizi and want her to succeed and so they’re like supporting her and just the idea that like she didn’t write anything on the test and so they all go go over gather around and they’re all whispering about what to do but they’re still doing stupid bits while whispering is very funny.
