The most CREATIVE episode I’ve EVER SEEN! – CITY: The Animation (Dub) | Episode 5 Reaction

Hello everyone. Welcome back to City the Animation episode 5. Last week we had uh a great episode that also ended with a to be continued. Last week actually was probably my favorite episode of the show so far. And yeah, at the end it said to be continued. So I it might be continued. It’s kind of crazy because it’s like it’s not really like the story in this show matters overall. It’s just a vehicle for the show to tell more insane jokes. But it was really nice having, you know, the the show kind of like have these story lines that converged at the end. Um, and all all the story lines came together. But there’s still more, I guess. Um, unless that was just a bit like I could also see that show being like, hey, that was to be continued, but we’re not going to continue it. We can’t be bothered. It just just seems like the sort of gimmick this show could pull. Um, anyway, let’s jump into episode 5 of City. Uh, make sure to support the video if you can, liking, commenting, and subscribing. Okay, they’re giving us a recap. Was captured by a chain. Yep. What the hell? this art. I mean, this real life. That’s so funny. Just putting Oh my god. It’s so creative. Okay, pause, everyone. We’re going to start the episode again cuz I was like I was like, there was something about the episode that felt off to me. It was that I was watching it in Japanese. I didn’t even realize. We’re going to do it again. We’re going to be watching it in English like we’ve always been doing. We shall begin as soon as Manmoiselle returns. I appreciate the award ceremony. Ceremony. You’re going to be forced to be given an award. I’m sorry. Our 12th floor is home to the penthouse waiting room for gift. It’s pretty chill. Waiting room on the top floor. Wine cooler. We have an open air hot, dual refrigerator, cabinets full of snacks, and chair. Oh, I could use a massage chair right now. To enjoy the amenities, I think it’s so bougie. You know, if you lack the means to run away, it’s creepy. Please just wait a little longer. Oh, well, she likes the luxury. I changed my mind. This elevator goes back down, right? Oh, I love showing a bunch of her exit. The window. Whoa. Oh, this is so cool that they’re doing this. They didn’t have to do this. This is crazy. Oh my gosh, what a creative episode. The Mona Lisa back there. I need a bath some booze while I try to think. Huh? Oh, this dude. That’s right. He also is being rewarded. What’s happening here? Is this the award ceremony? What is this? The twin hospitality towers above. His voice is not what I expected. Waiting room on the top floor of the east tower. Cute. As slowly close the gap from the waiting room to the west tower. As you cross into the halls the west tower where hospitality beyond your imagination. Wa, that’s so cool. A secret passage to escape hidden somewhere in the waiting. There’s a secret passage to escape. We’ll try to hurry you back up towards the This is insane. Challenges them. Then you can leave the tower. That wraps it up. Well, that’s so cool. Just accept the award, idiots. If we remain, we’ll be subjected to the highest level of hospitality. We need to hurry. will be subjected to the highest level of hospitality supposed to be a bad thing. What are you doing? Is it going to be the secret passage? There it is. I’m a repeat offender. He’s been nice many times before. He even brought a friend along this time. But how will the first trial? Can he rise to meet it? A look at the puppy. Entirely understand what they were offering. So I refused. But then before I knew shuffled into a That’s so funny putting the shower after giving me an unusual trophy. That’s so funny. Go back Nagamo. It’s awesome. That sounds amazing. Yeah, go back. Do it. I wasn’t doing that when I brought that. I know, but you can accept some rewards. I found myself completely drained and that night I cried alone into my pillow. Oh, too much. Unfortunately, I was caught on the floor below and immediately given another award. Told the weather award. It’s the Chamber of Trials. Two heads are better than one. Nagamo, go back up. Get a massage. Best of luck on your own. There you go. I’m upstairs. So, that bath isn’t going to take itself. I better go. I agree. I’ll shallow if the only thing you can think of is indulging yourself. What? But there’s no reason not to. Princing morals, that’s enough of that. Oh, hello. I was following you already, so I just climbed up the building. Eventually, I made it all the way up. What’s going on? Is that the person that was on the side of the building when it did the pan around? I was starting to get a little cold. I love her voice. Going up there. No way. Oh, no. Son has to treat ourselves once in a while. We should give her Mr. farmer, too. Cheers. A It’s these two, Miss Nagumo. We should continue moving forward. Damn. Poor Nagamo. Damn it. Going to do what I can to trip him up. We need to be captured. This is [ __ ] ridiculous. Oh, no. Stop. Oh my god. Oh my god. Is a disaster. The most expensive thing I own. You three fools. You’re going straight to hell. I mean, you’ve been trapping them in your hat. Lighter oil torch. What the [ __ ] Are they going to torch the place down? Whoa. The little rose in the teeth. Oh my god. They they succeeded more than welcome to proceed to next floor. I’m so confused right now. Was that surprising that the magician self-destructed like that? However, chamber of math hell. That way, Nexons and welcome to the chamber of math hell. All right. If you want, then you’ll have to face off with me first. All right. Eat me. I like her so far. What the [ __ ] happened? Here I come. Rule breaker. Are they going to do anything or are they just going to watch a weird show every every floor? Oh my god. Just broke her [ __ ] neck. I went too far. Jesus. All right, Sora. Answer me, please. What the hell happened? You’re dumb. Well, she’s alive. You did. Yes. Yes. Like this. They’re still speaking to each other. You’re so much better. There’s more story. I remember how you used to be when we Are they on the mech as well? They are. Do anything without me. They’re all on the mech. That’s so pissed. Continue. The door isn’t locked. No one will stop you on the ninth floor. She sounds like um both of you managed to lose. I will not forget this. She sounds like um what is her name? One of my favorite voice actors. Why is her name not coming to my head? Will I ever be able to find it? Nami’s voice actress and um Iraqi’s voice actress. Find that pendant before anyone else can get their hands on it. That’s really cool. The video game thing on the side. It was like a small adventure. Do you like that? They’ve got it. Suddenly, the Nura computer kicked into overdrive, man. And the video game thing on the side is so just grab the thing and run away. Do something like that. Well, I must admit, what the heck? The butt’s talking. You don’t know them all that well, do you? That’s pretty. It’s just two butts. The pendant somehow like no, it’s so distracting the thing on the side. Yeah, I guess you’re right. Steal it. Oh, did she miss? Why did you hesitate to act? Oh, now my moral compass must have kicked in. Okay, she can’t do it. This is it. Do we try another? There’s a whole episode going on on the side that I can’t watch. No, they they let him go. I’m I’m only going to be focusing on the main episode right now. Still back there. That’s dangerous. Oh my god. Is it going to continue? It’s continuing the contents of my lock. What the [ __ ] Hold on. I guess there was someone on the bottom of that car after all. So I wonder will she pick up? Oh, the two girls walking hand in hand is so cute. Oh, it’s combining. That’s so cool. But where’s the tower? I mean, it’s it’s going Yeah. What is that? It’s towering over the city. Oh, serious. I need to get over there. Oh, we’re cutting back to this. Okay. Something happened. I just had an incredible idea. I mean, it’s almost, you know, we yield. We yield. He’s like, “No, you can’t yield.” Oh, I give up. Speaks English. Trying to run. Yes. What the heck? Did you stop us? Spit it out. Staircase that goes forever. I will. There’s a such right here. And it almost cost me. It makes you wonder what other important things you’ve lost. I can barely follow what’s going on anymore. Identify the crypted. You really think so? Never lose your childlike wonder. Congratulations, man. Now that you did nothing, but all right, here I leave it right there. Oh, you didn’t do it. It let me touch it earlier because I had no intent of killing. Well, but it didn’t seem to try to dodge. What happened next? Do you still believe you can catch it? What do you think? Well, why don’t you try normally first? It might just let you pick it up. Yeah, look. Cool. Thanks, everyone. Okay, this is like an episode of 24, I imagine. I’ve never seen the show to the police. Oh my god, this is [ __ ] insane. Oh no. Okay, we really got to try losing this one. Doesn’t want hospitality. Doesn’t care. Wants hospitality. Yes, I surrender. She couldn’t surrender. It’s you. Oh my god. Doing me so you could relax, didn’t you? Yes. Is there something wrong with that? Look at that. Come on, go ahead and say it. You were about to say now there’s too much pride. Except you want to, don’t you? Just say it. This is the most insane episode I’ve ever seen. Surrender and get free food and booze. This really She was struck with inspiration. The ultimate white flag. Okay. The go is at the tower, is she? Maybe. Oh my god. She yielded but headbutt. That’s great. Hello. You’re already on it. Thank you. And we see him responding but we don’t hear it. That’s great. By that old geyser. And now you go through. Watch out. Oh my god. I’ll remember this. Who was that? I don’t know though. It does make you wonder. Granny, are you sure you’re okay? Does this mean we’ve emerged victorious from the trial? So now we don’t get anything. Exit. Where are we? What? Whoa. This is so cool. That’s so nice of you. Is it going to slowly piece together? Holy [ __ ] This is insane. It’s perfect. I’m going over there. Kame. Okay, I’ll be taking No way. I’ve prepared a collection of trophy cards. Oh my god, there’s so much of the city. When will this hospitality end? Hey, that’s a powder of sugar. Eat it all. This is the awards. What the [ __ ] is going on? Give me a drink, please. I want to Please excuse me. I love seeing sometimes they combine with each other. Holy [ __ ] I didn’t realize you wanted alcohol. Do they have every animator in the world working on this episode? I think we do. It’s all combining together. There we go. A There’s so much. Oh, sorry. Wait, Nagamo. Yeah, they met up. What were you doing here? Wait, you were the one who called me to save you. Come on, Nagamo. Overthink it. She hasn’t asked me about it. And if she’s not bringing it up at all, no one cares about the locket anymore. Means, did you ever end up finding that locket? But the way you’re acting, I bet there’s money in it. Oh, you should have just given it to me if you didn’t want to lose it. It’s not like I would have sold it or anything. After all, it’s on me, girl. So cute. I love these three. Who Who it go to? Do I know this guy? A It’s just Nagamo. Oh, so she’s just she’s just embarrassed that she’s inspired by Nagamo. What is What the [ __ ] is happening? What’s going on? Uhhuh. Well, there’s a lot of text on screen that might not be getting translated. I’m dumbfounded. Okay. Getting raided by mice, I guess. Jesus, what the [ __ ] And then get smited and then built into the towers. Okay. I thought it might have been the the origin of the towers. This is so [ __ ] stupid. Oh my god. Would you please issue an award to that person? As you wish. Oh my god. Okay. Yeah. There’s more. A. You think so? A They’re supportive. What the [ __ ] that [ __ ] episode genuinely like I was thinking I when they first started doing the split screen I thought it was going to be like 2 minutes of split screen and if it was like 2 minutes of split screen I was going to just do another part of this video where I’m reacting to what happens in the second part like I was going to like just do another reaction video like not not a whole another video but like in the discussion section I would just do another reaction to that bit. But the thing is, it’s so long and there’s not only two story lines, there’s a bunch there’s a bunch of story lines. So, I can’t do that. I got to say this is the most This is one of the most creative things I’ve ever seen in an anime ever, in a TV show ever. This is insane. How the hell did they have the resources to do this? This is crazy. Like, this show already like goes above and beyond. And this is the same episode that they had like real life towers and these crazy shots and stuff. And they also basically animated like six episodes in one. So, let’s see. Video game. They’re going through the towers. I see. I’m just like looking now purely at the stuff that’s off screen, but I’m not watching it. I’m going to just be skimming through it right now. In the future, I’ll hopefully get a chance to sit down and just watch the episode and watch a different section. But they’re doing it like a video game, which is very funny. Um, so they were moving through. Um, and then they move into this room 39°. They like succeed on that room, I think, which is why Nagamo’s pissed. Um, they go into this room. It’s like a It looks like lava, but it looks like it’s tomato soup. Um, so she looks pissed off again. They are taking more pictures. They continue. Nagamo is still looking pissed. Meanwhile, down here, we have uh this girl is on set or whatever, and then the two friends are just like walking. By by the way, when I was watching this episode, every once in a while, when I was like watching the main thing, I would like look down at the the um the friends, these two, I would like look down at their thing cuz all of their things were like them walking together like this, and it was the cutest thing in the world. Um, and so it was like it was like whenever I wanted like a dose of cuteness, I would like peer at the corner. There might have been sections you saw me like when nothing really was happening, but I just like smiled. I just got a warm fuzzy feeling cuz look at look at them. I mean, you can only see a part of them here. I guess what I could do is I could uh change it so you can hopefully see all of it. Um, yeah, look how how cute they are. Look at this. They’re adorable. Um, so yeah, they’re walking together. Um, and then I liked this bit where the phone call like connects and we’re like following them both. Um, I don’t I I’m not watching this in real time, so I don’t know what’s happening with this girl story right now. Um, but then it splits off even more. There’s like the soccer team, there’s the bus, there’s the them, there’s inside of the bus, and then the it’s following the locket as well. Um, so they’re all doing partying. There’s the person that’s on the bottom of the bus that I only saw for a glimpse in one of the shots. Um, anyway, they continue. Uh, they’re still going. I guess this is the bus that’s going to arrive at the party, right? They’ve all they’re all like going to the thing that happens at the end. As this happens, you see on the side here, they’re doing the um they’re doing the like going on the infinite staircase. That’s like an optical illusion thing where it’s like it’s a staircase that theoretically keeps going. Um so they’re they’re walking around there while there’s a bunch of random [ __ ] going on. These two are still being adorable. Look at the way that they’re walking together. This is so cute. Um, oh my gosh, the And then you have like this the old ladies being teased up here. I guess like that’s what that’s doing. It’s like a teasing later in the episode. Um, and then they’re still going, but then their signal gets cut out. The old lady’s signal gets cut out. Oh my gosh, they’re still going. I mean, a a lot of this they do get to use just like looping animation, but still it would take like a hell of a lot of work. Nagamo starts sprinting at this point. She gets pissed off. Um, soccer team’s talking to the police. Um, and at the same time, the bus seems to have arrived uh with with the the butler or whatever, which is kind of cool. Um, oh my gosh, I can barely tell what’s going on with Miss Tannabe or whatever is right here. I don’t know what’s happening there. Um, oh look, there’s the girl, uh, Mo is her name or something something like that. Um, uh, I didn’t realize that she was she was there, but people are like following her. Um, there’s the the girls at this point like find these weird dolls or something. I can’t I can’t really tell what was happening there. Um, and then now this is where it’s all like combining together. And then all of this happened. I’m not going to analyze all of this because there’s so much going on. Um, but it was but it was very cool. And I love like spreads like this that make it look like a Where’s Wally book or something. That’s so cool. Which I I I’ve seen like pictures of the the manga’s like covers and stuff and I’ve seen like this is kind of what the manga does a decent amount. So, it’s cool that they’ve um incorporated that into the show. But holy [ __ ] it truly is one of the most creative things I’ve ever seen. There was just so much going on. I like, okay, at the start of this video when I clicked play and I was accidentally playing the episode in Japanese and I was like and I didn’t realize it for a bit because I watch a bunch of shows in both English and Japanese. So, it doesn’t really um like it doesn’t really I don’t really notice most of the time which language I’m watching in because to me it truly is like the that like it as soon as you settle in to one language or the other, it feels natural, right? But um I like I think I noticed that I was watching in Japanese cuz I was like I cuz I didn’t feel as attached to when Nagamo was talking or something like I I I heard the voice and I didn’t like feel any attachment there and it was like such a small feeling where I was like something’s off and then I was like I’m watching in Japanese that’s what’s off and then I watched it in English and instantly I was connected again. Um but that’s just because I’ve spent time with with the English voices. Um, but I am so glad that I didn’t end up watching this full episode in Japanese. To have to watch this episode and also read the subtitles would be a nightmare. It was hard enough as it was. It It’s insane. I’m going to have to watch this episode a few more times on my own just to get like the baseline of some of the [ __ ] that was going on. Um, but like insane. I don’t know how Kanani has the I mean Kani is a very famous company and they um and I’m sure they’ve got you know money and artists to to use on this stuff but like they I don’t think anyone would have asked them to do this like and I don’t think I don’t if they didn’t do the episode like this I don’t think people would have been like well that was a disappointing episode. I think people would have been like, “That was a great episode. Well done.” But they did something that I just feel like I’ve never seen done before. Like I compared it in this episode to the the show 24, which my knowledge of 24 comes from um mostly cultural references to 24. Um, I’ve I’ve only seen a couple clips of the show years and years and years ago um when I was curious about like what is 24 actually like what does it actually look like? But basically from my knowledge of 24 generally there’s like you know there’s a countdown as an important thing and the show is supposed to take place in like real time. So there’s like a countdown happening and that the scenes are happening like uh you know it concurrently the scenes are happening like at the same time. So sometimes there’ll be split screens and you’ll see like one character doing one thing and another character doing other things while the countdown timer is going down in the middle to like build up the sense of tension, right? So um so that’s a like you know a really cool idea for a show it and it’s really creative. Um, so the creativity has existed, but I feel like it’s a different beast entirely doing it in animation as well. Like obviously with animation you can sync it up more, but it’s just like like there’s a difference I feel like between filming a scene and drawing a scene in terms of labor that goes into it. Um, and drawing a scene, even though this show has like a very simple art style, so maybe that helps. Um, but they don’t animate it any less just cuz it’s a simple art style. It probably takes less time to draw each individual uh frame. So maybe because of that they can put so much more love into the actual animation of it. But they put so much love into the animation of it that I feel like this show would take much longer to do than than most other shows. It’s insane. Um, but yeah, to to have all of those storylines going on at the same time is like is [ __ ] crazy because like with the with um the TV show with like uh 24 I like the one of the biggest difficulties would be to like to rehearse and have the actors do it in a certain time frame exactly or whatever, right? But I can tell you from experience, it’s not quite as hard as you’d think to do that. You know how I know? Cuz I was in a play that took that uh had a timer in the play. And the in the play there’s basically like um okay, there’s half an hour until um until you all die or whatever. Um, so the half an hour starts now and the there’s a timer on stage that the whole audience can see and the timer starts counting down from 30 minutes and so it’s like it it like the play had to be done in exactly 30 minutes and um and so I was part of that play. We didn’t do that much rehearsal. We did we did like a decent amount of rehearsal but it wasn’t like an insane amount. There’s like in the rehearsal process you find ways and you like you have like milestones you have like okay at 20 minutes we should be around this point at 15 minutes we should and if you’re not you subtly speed it up you suddenly cut stuff out you know um and there’s and it’s not as difficult as you’d expect it to be I feel like um it is an achievement it’s very cool but it is but you know it’s um it’s also like it doesn’t blow my mind as much as it does making animation for all these story lines all at once, you know, it’s insane. So, I’m extremely impressed. Um, it was a great episode. Like, despite like, you know, on top of that, um, not even considering the creativity that went into it, the the the scenario of the episode’s very funny, right? the idea that there’s um there’s an award ceremony and this woman is kidnapping people to force them to get awards. Nagamo once she finds this out is actually like, “Oh no, I actually want that.” But the other guy is like the nicest, most humble man in the world, and it would be shameful of him to accept that. So he basically forces Nagamo out of that. And then they’re all then they all have to do these crazy challenges, but Nagamo’s trying to throw them, but it doesn’t quite work. It’s like there’s a lot of good um good bits in there and it’s very funny, but I’m I’m just blown away by the actual episode itself that it’s hard for me to even focus on the story of it, you know, which I guess is also a disadvantage to doing this kind of episode is that like I I’m mostly going to remember the gimmick of the episode, but still insane.
