So, I’m excited to see what people pick. Exactly. All right. Well, on with the show. Hello, weebs and normies. Welcome to the anime club. I’m Graham. And I’m George. All right, George. Oh my gosh. Full transparency, everyone. This is the episode that we are recording after the launch of the Uma Musim episodes on the channel. Those three went up because we needed to have some extra ones ahead of time. Oh my gosh, the response has been crazy. Did George, didn’t you? I’m honestly shocked. Nope. Nope. When you said we should watch it cuz Uma is popping off right now, I was like, “Okay, all right.” George is like, “This is a waste of time. What are we doing? This is dumb.” People are going to want to watch our reaction to this. Okay, bring it on, I guess. Oh, apparently they did more than real. I was totally wrong. Popping off. They’re absolutely destroying the numbers. That’s something I I knew was going to be good, but beating out Ray Zero’s numbers on our channel, that’s crazy. That’s absolutely crazy. Yep. That’s wild. That’s wild. Thank you guys. I guess we should Thank you is in order. Thank you so much. And hey, you guys wanted George and us to watch the entire series all the way through all the seasons, all the movies. You keep up this level of support 100%. We will be watching everything Umaamus has to offer. Okay? So, I’m just putting that out there. You want us to watch everything. You just keep doing what you’re doing and we’ll be, you know, like, comment, subscribe, watch the videos, share it with a friend maybe if you think someone else will enjoy it. That is the way to get us to watch it. George is so freaking excited that our videos have done so well. Oh my god. Listen, I I am happy for the videos. I’m not totally hating on it. Like, I I feel like I’ve been pretty fair to Umamus. I’m giving it a fair shot. Um Uhhuh. There’s I don’t want to jump the gun too much. There’s there’s things that I’ve become aware of since we uh we’ll talk about it later. Actually, that I’d like to highlight the comments early this time instead of at the end because I think that’s an important thing to talk about as well, but why don’t you go ahead and take it away on the first comment then or set of comments. Yeah. What I was Yes. So, let’s just highlight them right now then. Let me just pull up because I want to make sure I get the the names right. First, there’s more than these, but we just I wish we could highlight all of them. It’s just logistically great videos. Like there were so many good comments and this is from the first three episodes again because we’re doing this after the first three have come out. So we just grabbed comments from all over the place. Yeah. So uh just three that we pulled up here. It’s from Andy Rodriguez on Patreon. Uh she my city 4789. I hope I said that right. um on YouTube and this rice eater nice name uh on YouTube as well. Uh essentially but all three comments one of the common thread on them was um that the results of the races are based on real life. I don’t know about you, okay, but this changes everything for me. Like actually it’s a it’s a very very uh dense thick however you want to say it point plus to bringing more enjoyment in the anime for sure. Yeah. Yeah. Cuz I think for me it was like oh yeah well she’ll win because like the anime wants the main character to win, right? But now it’s like anything could happen because it’s literally built on the most organic roglike imaginable real life. And so the the odds of what could happen are just anything. It literally anything. And the fact that they come up with stories of like why certain things happen in certain ways of like, oh well this horse won or lost because of these reasons and school drama and all this other stuff. It’s like actually brilliant. like actually so like the what a great premise for a show. Yeah. Yeah. That’s uh you know what that’s pretty big. Yeah. Pretty big. It’s not the end all be all obviously cuz outside of real life like a good story is a good story, right? So like if you have to bend the truth to make a great story you can’t go around and say that it’s accurate but you also did make a good story, right? Like you could just say inspired by real world events or whatever, but this is like different than that. This is the results are actually the real results. All right, I see you, Uma Mus. I see. Honestly though, this elevates the show. Like I already liked it cuz it was like that’s fine. It’s a cute girls and running. I already like it. I’ve already gone over that. But now that I know that it’s not like things are just going to happen because like the anime wills it to happen because they have a plot to say, this changes the perspective of the races for me completely. Yes. I kept saying I think it was even last episode that this is like a frictionless anime, right? Well, not so frictionless anymore. It’s just like legitimately how it happened. So, good on them. Good on them. Like it it just I can’t understate and I hope I’m not being annoying with this. I literally can’t understate how big of a deal this is for me cuz like for me it’s like I I agree with that like perspective the seed of like what is oh the anime is so frictionless. For me it’s just like yeah like I really don’t like when anime is too frictionless like that. So I’m like well they’re just going to keep making her win and she’ll have some losses and some wins and eventually she’ll just like win. But like now it could be [ __ ] anything, George. Like now I’m just legitimately going to be like I don’t know if this horse will win this race because like I assumed they would win because it’s the anime and that’s the way it has to be. But now I’m just like I literally don’t know. So I feel like I’m more invested in the races than ever before. So yeah, I do I do feel like they wouldn’t pick just a random horse that does like wins two races and then never does the rest of them. Sure. And then have have the focus of the anime be about them being uh what is it called? A triple crown or whatever triple crown horse. Yeah. So, like I’m assuming that they picked a horse that had like a good compelling arc in that specific realm and then they built the story around it. Sure. Um or like embellished the story. Not necessarily like built it around it, but like embellished all the other stuff, filled in the details. Yeah. And they could pick a horse that like wins one race and then just like for whatever reason can only get like second or third place, right? Can’t get that first place win. And I feel like the anime would be focused on something else. It would be like, sure, how do they deal with the loss or whatever? Like, that’s what I was gonna say. It doesn’t always have to be about a horse that wins, right? It just needs to be a compelling story, right? It’ be great if they win. That’s the icing on the cake for sure. But like, if there’s a legendary horse, like there have been legendary horses that just like never freaking win, but they’re super popular. Maybe their story can be made to be really compelling. So, that’s the thing I’m looking forward to the most for this whole thing. So, I’m I’m more excited to watch Horse Girls than ever before, George. Oh my gosh. And my my hype was already up there, so this is great. Yeah. Yeah. Good stuff. Good stuff. All right. I have a comment that I want to highlight as well. It’s um it’s this giant comment here that we’re going to feature on the screen. Oh my gosh, look at this giant juicy freaking comment, dude. We’re have to like shrink it down. We I wanted to show it big and then we could shrink it down. It’s huge. But this is from Crane Silently plays 8084. Um my initial comment was to this huge thing was I’m happy for you or I’m sorry that happened because oh my gosh, this thing was so big. But we did go through it. We did read it. I was going to say we we went through it and we read it. That that’s part of the reason for this whole comment highlights. Anybody new to the channel, cuz it’s very possible you’re new. We love interacting with the TAC community, the anime club community. You guys have been fantastic. Awesome. All your comments for the most part. There’s a few Yeah, there’s a few in there, but for the most part, very spoilerfree, very informative, extremely nice. And so, yes, keep the comments coming. We would love to highlight all of them. We try and read as many as we can. Sometimes we literally read all of them. Doesn’t always happen because there’s a lot. But yes, anyways, with that aside, yes, keep going. That aside, there was there’s not well maybe there is one thing in particular actually that was extremely helpful, which is episode 13 is a digest of season 2. So, we should probably just skip that. Actually, I didn’t know that. So, that’s extremely good to know. I’m really glad we know that. So, we will skip that and we’ll just go straight into season two after episode 12. I don’t know if season 13 came out right away, but I feel like I watched 12 episodes and then that was it and I didn’t watch the 13. So maybe it came out later, maybe it came out the same time. I’m not 100% sure. The comment is they they weren’t sure how how good season one would do, right? Right. So they kind of just like prepped it, I guess. But yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Very interesting. Um we’ll definitely do that. We really appreciate that. And then the other things in here, there’s so much information. It was really dense, but it was really interesting to read about like all this stuff. Really appreciate this comment other than like Yeah. the IRL lore like all this stuff to the uh oh Da Scarlet having a bigger bus size than Vodka because the jockey or the owner was just like, “No, it has to be this way. Okay, they have to make it bigger.” It’s like, “Okay, all right.” Like it’s very interesting the the the horse lore and the community engagement of the Uma Musme community runs freaking deep and hot. That’s freaking crazy. Clearly, it’s amazing. It’s actually amazing. So, we’ve had a lot of fun. Honestly, the last like little bit of just checking out the comments and how well the video is doing and just seeing the excitement around it has been really fun. We really appreciate the comments and everything, guys, and the support. It’s super humbling. And uh hopefully one day we’ll have all of the Uma stuff done and we’ll be full-time and we’ll just uh we can become UMA streamers or something. George, what do you think about that? Oh my gosh. Uh we’ll see. We’ll see. No comment. No comment. Oh, great. All right. Well, with that being said, is there any I guess there’s not a lot of predictions we can make. I’m just I can’t I’ve said it before. I don’t want to be a broken record, but I’m more excited than ever to watch the show because I’m just excited to see what the outcomes will be now that they’re they’re so much more dynamic and organic to me now. So, yes, very much more organic knowing that it’s uh based on in real life. So, no predictions for me. Um I say we just get started. Okay, sounds good. Let’s do it. Oh, that’s right. still down. She lost. What? What? Oh my gosh, bro. What is happening to her, bro? She’s One thing’s the milk and other’s like freaking smashing your thumb like that. What? Yeah, right. Oh, no. Used to lose weight. That’s not going to change anything. Oh, I understand. That’s why the zipper wouldn’t fit. She had gained weight. That’s what it was all about. Oh my gosh, dude. I wonder how lore accurate that is. Yeah. Have the horse gained weight and that’s why, baby. Interesting. Okay. Well, okay. That’s the meters 2,400. Yeah. No. Yeah. So, it’s crazy that the race tracks are not standardized. I thought they were cuz didn’t they raised in the 1600 meter track, now a 2,000 meter track, and now a 2400 meter track. That’s a big variation in what? And the fact they’re not the same length. Oh, yeah. It goes up to They’re not all like 2,000. Oh. Oh yeah, I see. So the distance determines the like qualification or the I guess whatever type of race it is. Okay. Yeah, cuz at least in the game it goes up to 3,000. Oh, bro. He just has a carrot on him. Weird. So weird offering somebody a carrot. Oh, she’s eating less. Okay. Oh, [Music] let’s go. Oh, she brought him little figurines. Yeah, little souvenirs. This is like a very important Japanese tradition. When you travel, you should pick up omiyag so you can bring backouven. Yeah, gotcha. Oh, fifth. [Music] Oh, [Music] she’s so freaking cute. It’s incredible. Oh, dang. [Music] NHK Mile. Okay. Have you had Tayyaki before? Okay. Tayak. Maybe. We’ll see. We’ll see what it looks like, but I don’t think so. Give me 10. Yep. Called it. There it is. That’s what it was. Censored the kilos. What? Jeez. Right. He’s gonna bulk and cut at the same time. Is it super spicy? [Laughter] Dang. Wow, bro. She’s doing so many races. Okay. [Laughter] [Music] Okay, I guess retire. Oh, what is this? Bro, she had all these carrots in her room. Yeah. What? Seal up those carrots. Oh my gosh. I wonder if there’s like a link between this and real life like the attitude of the horses or something. Yeah, probably. Oh boy. You’re going to have to dive high dive. Oh. Oh, now she’s going to want to do it then. Honestly, I hate heights, so I I feel her pain. Oh jeez, dude. Uh-oh. Oh my gosh, bro. She belly flops. Dude, that’s going to hurt, man. Belly flopping from that height. Oh, it’s a challenge letter. All the stats. What the heck? Okay, she’s game. Oh, why? Ah, she doesn’t want her to feel upset. [Laughter] [Music] [Music] Interesting. Does she hate running? I wonder I feel like Suzuka hates running and somehow Special Week’s going to reignite her love for running or something. Interesting. Yeah, I wonder. Oh, what? It’s a mock race, but Oh, it’s a school. Who is here? She’s selling food. Oh boy. I don’t think she’s got a chance, right? She’s a sprinter, not a long range runner. So maybe depending on the distance. Oh, starts with a hill. Interesting. Yeah. Do you think so? What’s the game plan here from the trainer? Do you think it’s like the the last part of the race is like a sprint? So maybe take any kind of ideas of running from the best sprint runner to then apply that to the end of a long race, right? cuz that’s essentially what it is, right? Yeah. Yeah. Like I’m thinking that’s what the [ __ ] idea is here. H Oh, dang. She’s inching out ahead. Oh, there. She’s keeping up. Oh, man. Dang. Okay. But she’s keeping up. Oh, the wind. And then she’s going to be able to Yeah, she’s going to be able to edge out at the end. That’s That’s what Skye did. Uh, that’s got to be what she did. Yeah, you’re right. Yeah. So, she’s getting less tired cuz she doesn’t have to fight against the wind, right? Yeah. [Music] Imagine. Oh. Oh frick, dude. Oh, she’s out of the splits. Dude, she is fast. She got faster on the hill. That’s wild. No, don’t think like that. Don’t think like that. [Music] Yeah. Is she giving up? Uh, no. She’s not giving up. Uh, I don’t know. She’s running on her tiptoes. Yeah. Yes, she is when she’s going up the hill. Oh, that makes so much sense. Oh, she’s got copier. Okay. Oh. Oh. Okay. Yeah. Oh, dang, dude. She’s catching up. Dang. Oh, wow. No way. No way. Interesting. Uh-oh. Oh, no way, bro. She kicked into second gear again. Oh, she’s having so much fun though. There we go. Okay. [Laughter] No, she’s gaining. Yeah, you’re right. Oh, she’s not paying attention. What is she doing? Oh, dang. She wasn’t able to see who won, bro. Oh man, that was close. Yeah, but you learned valuable in No kidding. That’s the thing. Learned a lot. Two techniques at least. Yeah. [Laughter] Nice. She must be a foreign horse. Oh, dang. Dang. Dang. She understood. Interesting. Yeah. [Music] Yeah. What’s I was going to say, what’s going on with her? Dang. Oh, dude. She’s crazy. Oh, frick. That’s the one she’s going in. Oh, she called around specifically. Skye’s going too. That’s right. Oh, frick. Okay. [Laughter] Oh my gosh, this girl. Come on. Dang. Okay. Okay. Dang. I wonder how much it translates in real life the um running on your tiptoes cuz like horses don’t can’t really do that. Yeah. So like what what’s the deal there? I don’t know. Yeah, it’s a good question. I I know that isn’t like going up a hill on your toes easier cuz like lower surface area is easier to go up hills like that. Isn’t that a thing? I could have sworn I saw something just recently about that. I don’t know about lower surface area and stuff. You’re supposed to be the normie. You got to know these things. I mean, that doesn’t sound like a norm thing to know, but I mean, running up a hill, depending on how steep it is, like yeah, you probably want to like being on your tiptoes is is a little bit better. Oh, minor glitch there. Okay, sorry, George. You’re supposed to know nor things. Uh, I don’t know how that would work. I just from running up hills depending on the on the incline running on your tiptoes is a little better but if it’s not like it didn’t seem like an incredibly steep hill so I don’t know I I feel like I watched something just recently where they kind of talked about that like using your your toes instead of your like whole foot to climb up especially if you’re moving quickly maybe I don’t know But anyways, yeah, I am I am curious. I am a little bit curious is if there was the the rivalries that they set up like Daiwa, Scarlet, and Vodka we know for sure is like a real rivalry. They’re setting up a rivalry between special week Sky and um El Pasa. Elcondor Pasa. Yeah, Elondor. What a what a name. I love that name. Elondor Pasa. I love the horses that are foreign that have like accents are one of some of my favorite. The accents are so freaking cute, dude. They’re like they’re like um the way they say like this is so freaking cute. I love it, man. It’s great. But um okay, I wonder if those rivalries were real or if they’re manufactured based on like the results of what the races were. Uh, right. Hard to say. I don’t know. Yeah, it’s hard to say. I don’t know. Very interesting. I also wonder like how like obviously you can’t necessarily take the personality as much personality as like I’ I haven’t really been around horses that much so I don’t know how expressive they really are. Like I know they’re expressive but like to what extent, right? I I think they’re pretty expressive to like in their personalitywise like gold ship like clearly I want personality well with uh Suzuka silent Suzuka right like maybe she was just like a really how can you even chill could you even tell okay yeah that’s what I’m saying like could you even tell with a horse that they they’re losing the love of the game or is it more of like a like you’re saying it’s just like this horse was chill and so we’re going to take that and like through creative liberties interpreted as they’re losing the love of the game, right? They’re losing the love of running. Sure. I I understand what you’re saying. It it definitely could be that. It could be. What if like the horse didn’t like like to race like they tried to get it out to racing and it would always like like fight against racing, but once it was there and racing it was fine. It always like did really well and and won. But like to get it to come to race, it was always seemed resistant maybe. Right. I wonder because at least that’s what it seems like they’re building up for for Soua, right? Yeah. Like I feel I feel like she’s going to get the love of racing back. But again, how does that work? And how does that translate in real life? There there is no uh special week that can like Yeah, let’s get the love of racing back in. Right. like the horse looking from a distance watching the race being like all sparkle eyes like oh racing is fun. Yeah. So yeah. True. True. Yeah. That’s I guess that’s part of the fun actually is is thinking about like how much it crosses over actual reality. Yeah. Yeah. That’s cool. Or or it could be even a mix of jockey and horse. Maybe the jockey was just like true. Like whatever, right? and like special week jockey. They kind of merge a little bit of that gear. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, true. Huh. It definitely makes it more exciting to think about, I think, as a whole, knowing that it’s so tied to reality and how much liberty is being taken. So, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Wow. Well, I hope next episode has the race cuz I’m looking forward to the Japan Derby. The Nihon Derby. Nepon Derby. Nhon Derby. Yeah, this is episode four. Yeah. Do you think that’s like a finale race? Well, I think her becoming or not Triple Crown is a finale. So, the Nihon Derby is the first of three G1 races, right? I thought it said that Elcondor Pasa was tearing up G1’s. Oh, isn’t that what they said in the TV commentary? You You might be right. You might be right. Well, there was a really good comment that that kind of broke it down a little bit as to why some of the other horses were were really good. Um because or why they were kind of legendary status cuz they got like triple crowns and stuff like that. Oh, like Yeah. And you get only like one chance or something to do it. Yeah, I remember seeing that. We got to go back to horse school. We didn’t do our horse girl homework. Dang. We’re going to fl the test, bro. That’s crazy. Oh man. Dang. We were just drawing racetracks as opposed to That’s right. That’s right. Yeah. Took took advice from special week. Yeah. Um, I feel like it would be next cuz I I feel like the end of the season is going to be whether she becomes or not a G1 horse uh horse girl, I guess. That’s right, George. Don’t forget. So, yeah. So, I suppose that next week would would be a good week then to have the uh have the actual one, the Nihon Derby. That’d be sick. Okay. You think she’s going to win? See, if if we hadn’t have gotten the great comments explaining the connection to real life, I would say like for sure she’ll win. But now I’m just like probably. I guess that’s what I’m like probably cuz they again they wouldn’t pick a horse and have like the whole central goal of the season be I want to be the best in Japan and then fall short of that at the end of the season and then be like h sucks to be you guys. I don’t know. I don’t know. I don’t know. I don’t remember. I genuinely don’t remember. So I don’t know. is you think her journey of her trying is compelling enough even if she doesn’t as a first season for a novelty. Yes, I think as a first season it works even if she doesn’t make it. It’s like kind of following the journey and it does set a bit of expectations of like listen it’s not just going to go the way you want, right? It’s not always the story is not always going to be about this happy ending. It’s going to be like cuz then that sets up stakes for like potential other seasons, right? Like if special week cannot make it true in the first season, then like it makes everything more exciting because you genuinely don’t know if they’re going to win or not. Yes. But I also feel like it’s a bit of a let down if they pick a horse who doesn’t win. So then it’ll be for everyone. We’ll all be sad, including special weeks, but then it’s just like, bro, I don’t want to watch this show. Like the the character I’m rooting for doesn’t freaking make it. Why am I going to watch next season? So I think it’s like a double-edged sword. George, okay, think about this. Think about it this way. Uhhuh. If there were no horse girls and it was just the jockeys and their horses as well, but it was like it was an animated show with jockeyies. Cute anime girls. No, they’re they’re looks similar to their real life counterpart and their personality can be a mix of whatever the horse girl is in this show and like their actual it can be essentially their personality just like animified, right? Like is this anime still? Yes, it’s still anime but it’s like jockeyies and horses would. And then at the very end, the jockey you’re rooting for doesn’t get the triple crown. How would you feel about the anime then? You already lost me when they stop being anime girls. Oh my gosh. I’m sorry. Well, as somebody who the anime girls do nothing for, I’m saying if the freaking horse doesn’t win at the end, then why did I invest all this time in watching this show? Ah, I mean, I don’t know what to tell you, bro. Like, for me, 50% of the show is the fact that they’re cute anime girls, and the other 50% of the show is like the the high stakes racing, the like excitement of the race. Like, that’s that’s it. That’s the whole thing for me. That’s so That’s exactly what I’m saying. To put you in my perspective, imagine if you were watching a show where these were actual jockeyies and real horses and they were animated still, but it was just like a jockey and his horse. Yeah. I I certainly wouldn’t be as invested. I I cheer for the horse girls because they’re horse girls. Okay. And like Sure. Okay. So, maybe you wouldn’t care whether they win or not because they’re you’re not as invested. Yes. So, maybe that’s the answer to the question. You just you wouldn’t even watch the show. I just wouldn’t even watch the show. But I am being forced to watch the show. Okay. And I want my horse. Everyone keep liking the video and we can keep making George watch the show. Okay. You can’t do anything as long as the videos do well. Oh my god. Yeah. I mean, I agree with you, but that’s So, here’s the thing, though. This is This is what I’m talking about. This is exactly what I’m talking about. We don’t know if the horse will actually win. That’s the best part of the freaking show is we genuinely are having a debate right now if the horse could even win. If the story could even be about a horse that doesn’t win. This is the brilliance of the whole freaking series. I think it’s brilliant. Yeah. Yeah. What a what an interesting freaking It’s not even like a twist, per se. At least not in the traditional sense. Yeah. It’s a little quirk story premise. Sure. Yeah. Yep. Okay. It’s very cool. Fair enough. Very cool. Yeah. Yeah. Well, I hope she wins. I hope so, too, because otherwise now we’re going to be Now, George, you’re literally going to be cheering for special week to win because you want you genuinely want her to win cuz you feel like it would be lame if she doesn’t. Yes. But I also want them to have picked a horse with a compelling story. Okay. Come on, show. That’s why you’re gonna cheer. We’re both gonna be cheering. I’ll be cheering because she’s cute and I want her to win. And you’ll be cheering because you want her to win from a story perspective because it makes a good story. It’s It’s freaking perfectly balanced as all things should be. Fair enough. Fair enough. Okay. All right. Well, good episode. Um. Yes. Good episode. Good learning moments again. Like I wonder like how much is this like something that the jockey learned? He’s like, “Right.” Or the trainer. Yeah. The jockeys train the horses or they just ride the horses. Do you think there’s like a trainer? You think it’s separate? I’m I’m pretty sure it’s the jockeys themselves. Okay. Who train? Yeah. Who train the horses. And Yeah. And they You got to have like a All my knowledge of horse racing comes from Seab Biscuit. Okay. So Toby Maguire is the only jockey I’ve ever followed in my life. I’ve never followed a real one. Oh, okay. All of my horse racing knowledge comes from Uma Musme, the the game. The game and the show now, I guess, at this point. But yeah, basically. Yes. So, that’s funny. I feel like in real life, the jockeys would train with the horses, right? You got to have that like special bond. Sure. Makes makes sense. Yeah. Makes sense. Yeah. Oh, her gaining weight. Is the jockey gaining weight? Cuz jockeys got to be light, bro. They got to be light. You’re right. Yeah, you might be right. It’s possible that like special week lost a race and they were like, “Oh, actually she’s like too fat. We’re feeding her too much carrots or hay or whatever the freak. It could be the horse. Yes, could be the horse.” Or it could have been the jockey as well. Who? You never know. You never know. That’s the exciting part is we just don’t know. Oh, well, she is she is doing literally an almost physiologically impossible feat, which is to bulk and cut at the same time. But she’s she’s a horse girl, man. Oh, true, true. They’re They got the special human abilities. That’s [ __ ] right, bro. That’s freaking right. It’s It’s so based. It’s great. It’s awesome. All right. Very good, George. This is a fun episode. Yeah. Good stuff. Good stuff from special week. I’m excited. I didn’t think I’d say this. There are degrees of excitement, but I’m genuinely anticipating next episode. So, ladies and gentlemen, we got him. Oh my gosh. I again, I want to make sure Special Week wins. I don’t want to waste a freaking season and then at the end she doesn’t win. Okay. All right, Graham. You got me on to this, bro. Fun fact: The race commentator with the short, dark hair is a representation of Junko Hosoe. She is designed after her and is voiced by Junko herself. She was one of Japan's first JRA-licensed female horse jockeys, active in the 90's. She retired in 2001 due to health concerns and later became a race commentator. We westerners would probably know her, without knowing it. If you're familliar with the 12 Billion Yen Incident, note that the female commentator letting out a shocked scream was in fact Junko Hosoe herself. Junko would later publically apologise for her outburst as it was seen as her not being impartial as a commentator.
This was more of a slice-of-life/training arc episode, so some Spica horse lore:
Special Week: Episode 2 depicts Special Week as having been raised by a human after her biological mother died. This is accurate to reality to an extent. Special Week's mother died due to complications in birthing him. A stablehand had to hand feed Special Week until a surrogate mother could be sourced. In the end they found a draft horse to raise juvenile Special Week. This is why Special Week's current mother is depicted as both human and an agricultural worker in the countryside.
Silence Suzuka: Suzuka transferring teams from Rigil to Spica is a reflection of the real horse playing musical chairs with jockeys. Silence Suzuka had an explosive debut race, only to have a following year of middling results. There were multiple jockey changes until Suzuka settled with Yutaka Take, the GOAT of Japanese jockeys, who understood how to properly work with Suzuka. Notice how Trainer-san criticises Hana for not understanding how Suzuka runs after she transfers. Silence Suzuka and Special Week were contemporaries who raced in the late 90's. The two horses were half-brothers, both being sired from a Japanese-owned American horse, Sunday Silence, who was a Kentucky Derby winner. It is no accident that the anime depicts the two as close to one another.
Vodka & Daiwa Scarlet: These two were a pair of mares who were active in the late 2000s. They were contemporaries and rivals. Their score against each other at the end of their careers were tied. Two wins, two losses and a draw. The two would be remembered for once-in-a-lifetime glory which the anime never covers. Vodka's owner intentionally ignored the Triple Tiara (Similar to the Triple Crown races, but exclusively for mares) in order to enter Vodka in the 2007 Japanese Derby. She was the first mare to win the Derby in 64 years. Daiwa would follow up in 2008 by entering the Arima Kinen. She became the first mare to win the Arima Kinen in 37 years. Yes, Daiwa Scarlet's owner gave permission for Cygames to use her on the condition they gave her larger tits than Vodka. What a G.
Tokai Teio: The real Tokai Teio is the son of Symboli Rudolf. It is no accident that Uma Musume depicts Teio as being one who looks up to Rudolf. Teio's name was a homage to Rudolf's real world nickname 'The Emperor'. Tokai Teio was seen as a racing prodigy and was inducted in the JRA Hall of Fame in 1995. Season 2 covered Teio's story.
Mejiro McQueen: A contemporary to Tokai Teio in the early 90's. McQueen was Japan's premier 'stayer', or long distance racer, at the time. Mejiro is a storied and prominent race horse stable, the anime depicting all the Mejiro girls as part of one rich family. Season 2 will cover McQueen's story.
Gold Ship: There's not much to be said that social media has not told ad nauseum. But I'll point out that the anime depicts Gold Ship as following McQueen around everywhere. That's a reflection of the fact that Mejiro McQueen is Gold Ship's maternal grandfather. Gold Ship was active in the mid 2010's and won many G1 races.
You'll learn over time that every horse featured in Uma Musume are among the top decimal percentage of Japanese race horses. Thousands of horses are registered with the JRA every year, and the character roster is just over 100 in the Japanese version of the game, featuring horses from numerous eras in the 20th and 21st centuries.
If the anime depicts two horse girls as being especially close, it's likely not an accident. There are a few notable exceptions but those can be mentioned when relevant.
Umazing next episode is hype
Enjoy this girly cutie day of uma musume, because after this season, it will be fade out into some battle shonen black air force energy type story (notice i said fade out, there will be less cute girl thingy the more the series find its personality)
If i am gonna make tier list A= cute D= menace
A= season 1, season 2
B= season 3
C= road to the top
D=beggining of the new era, Cinderella gray
Edit: it's just an opinion, don't swallow this information as a fact
Edit 2: when i am talking about menace, i mean blue lock level "reff, do something" type shi
Don't skip 13. It's fun and has nothing to do with season 2. I'm not sure why anyone would say that. It feels like an OVA to wrap up season 1 in a more feel good way. Also, love your reactions, guys. Keep it up. Oh, and if George wants to see more cute girl sports anime but with an absurd concept and is actually good, watch Girls und Panzer. That will probably blow his mind.
Once you finish the season it could be fun for yall to compare the major races IRL they can be very intense
Honestly. I'm usually not an anime fan, but this shit has taken over my mind.
These characters are adorable, and I want to help them succeed. I know a decent amount about horses since my sister used to do horse riding competitions, but somehow, THIS is what has gotten me interested in horses.
This is a good anime and a great game! I think season 2 and Cinderella Gray are the best of the anime.
Yeah, that's why there was never a second Rocky film, because the main character not winning is the death of a story. 😛
13:12 great catch, because i've read somewhere that special week lost on that specific race because the irl special week gained weight as well
Think of the whole tip toe running thing as them trying to emulate how horse hoof bends forward
Haru urara is the very example of a legendary horse without a win.
Vodka and daiwa scarlet were real rivals. I think so was special week and grass wonder.
Silent suzuka and his first jockeys style did not mix well but the new one did. The new one is the same with special week.
There is an owner, a groomer, a trainer and a jockey. Special week was a big eater. Im excited for season 2 and beyond.
14:13 22:08 oguri cap sighting
Running using the balls of your feet is the proper way to run to conserve stamina without sacrificing speed its how our ancestors chased down the animals they hunted
I'm on phone so it's a little hard to read what the comments said, but some of the race results are the same as real life, real life circumstances saw historical match ups not happen and in service to the anime they go down a more "What if" scenario. The stories themselves are also inspired by real life horses, so a big piece of advice avoid looking at the stories of the horses, you could accidently spoiler yourself.
But after Season 1 I'd recommend you look up the stories for Special Week and Silence Suzuka to get an idea of just how close the story mirrored real life, I think your viewers would appreciate the reaction as well.
while i do like season 1, its gonna be very important to commit and get to season 2, that's where it picks up a lot. and of course, still holds accurate to the real life horse's journey. also yes, Seyun Sky and El Condor Pasa where actual rivals to Special week.
30:12 Classics include: Satsuki Sho, Japanese Derby and Kikuka Sho. Spe lost Satsuki Sho in previous episode.
Im new here. Hope ya'll enjoy season 1, but don't expect much from it. In the entirety of the Uma Musume anime franchise, season 1 was the worst, so yea, it will get better overtime.
Season 2 was the best out of the 3 seasons so expect much.
Also ya'll probably already know but don't forget to watch the Cygames works: Road To The Top, Cinderella Gray, and ofc the movie (These 3 are soo much better than the og season 1-3) can't wait to see the videos for it.
Season 2 iis the best story wise in the whole franchise
I will 100% will be here for the whole ride but if nothing else I want them to at least finish that
Actually S1 had some alternative results from the RL counter parts. You'll know when the specific scenes come, I'm sure people gonna point it out later in the comment in future episodes.
The reason Silence Suzuka is shown this way because in real life he had a rough start in his career and switched between multiple jockeys. His running style wasn't yet refined and he was seen as difficult to run with subpar results. They show this in the show by starting with her poor performance and disassociation with racing on her first team. When he finally got a jockey that worked well with him Silence started to completely dominate the racetrack. This is why the trainer tells her to run how she wants to early in this season and why she switches teams. I won't go further since it will be a spoiler but that's why she acts this way up to this point and how it connects to real life.
12:59 yep its lore accurate😂
👍 Umazing!
About racetracks:
Every racetracks are different. Wide corner, tight corner, uphill, downhill. There are also right or left running (clockwise, counter clockwise)
joyous day! another uma musume video!
edit: it goes higher than 3000m lol
You guys should check uma musume Cinderella gray next❤ great reaction guys.
Film :O oh my god, i cant wait.
I think the reason why Special Week is the main character in this season is because she has the MC backstory. She's a country girl with humble beginnings and big dreams and her mother died shortly after she was born. That's based on the real life events and that's her "compelling story".
Currently farming Rudolph sparks while watching this. Appreciate the reaction fellas
37:32 Until you meet Gold Ship and learn that "you don't train Gold Ship, she trains you"
