Yofukashi no Uta (Season 2) OP – “Mirage” / Creepy Nuts (Piano)
Ray Krislianggi here.
We finally have a season 2 of Yofukashi no Uta (よふかしのうた) / Call of the Night! It’s one of the most enjoyable anime of 2022 IMO, and we’ve got the new opening theme, “Mirage”. Like the opening of the first season, it’s performed by Creepy Nuts. The song is composed by DJ Matsunaga (DJ 松永), with the lyrics / rap written and performed by R-Shitei (R-指定), both of which are the members of Creepy Nuts. It’s released on July 4th, 2025, the day as the show’s season 2’s debut.
We’ve got fascinating opening themes of Summer 2025 so far, but this one might be the most interesting so far. Creepy Nuts is known for their avant-garde approach to songs, but there’s no denying that this has such a certain “feel” to it. It’s basically a 4-chord loop, but the bass clef (left hand) is in a normal 2/4 time signature, but the treble clef (right hand) is full of tuplets. A tuplet is a group of notes that are played in a different duration from the standard rhythmic division of the beat. It’s a way to fit a number of notes into a space normally occupied by a different number of notes. In this song’s example, it’s a triplet, because one bar is supposed to fit two 1/4th notes in a 2/4 time signature, yet there are many instances, especially in the chorus, where there are 3 notes divided in equal duration in 1 bar. This makes it feel like there’s a mismatch between the left hand and right hand, but in music, it’s a coordinated and mathematically-timed mismatch. Also, it’s incredibly hard to play a combination of normal rhythm and tuplets on piano in a clean manner.
I can’t wait to watch the anime, but I’m on a 1-year backlog, so I’m currently watching the ones from Summer 2024. Yofukashi no Uta has a pseudo-Monogatari Series vibe to it, but a lot lighter than Monogatari, love it. And Nazuna is such a character, she’s just perfect.

It's always fun and interesting to try arranging rap parts on piano 😆. It feels like there's a mismatch between the left and right hand notes in some parts, but as with a lot of things in music, it's a coordinated and mathematically-timed mismatch. The reason is this song has a LOT of tuplets in the treble clef (right hand). In this song's case, it's a triplet, especially in the chorus.
