She Was Treated Like Trash, Now She’s a Duke’s Fiancée | Betrothed to My Sister Ex Episode 1.
The story follows the Shadan family once noble but now living in poverty. Baron Shadran has two daughters. One is cheerful and sociable with soft golden hair. Anastasia the older sister looks like a princess. The other is tall like a boy. The tattered younger sister Marie spends her time reading books. The Shadan family is poor. Everyday there’s a mountain of housework to be done. Meals for the family must be prepared as well. While the family enjoys the meals made by Marie, she eats only the leftovers. Later at night, she handles her father’s work, balancing accounts and signing documents in his place. While taking a bath, she thinks it’s all right. Tomorrow is her birthday. She’s certain it will be a good day. The next day, guests gathered for the party. Cedric, the younger brother, excitedly tells Anastasia she looks beautiful and her hair is so fluffy. Anastasia thanks him with a smile. Baron Shadran greets everyone and announces the star of the day’s event. Anastasia looks surprised and Marie realizes this party is not for her birthday. It’s a debut party for her sister to find a marriage partner from the great houses. While everyone surrounds Anastasia with attention, Marie quietly walks away from the celebration. As she walks, she thinks to herself that just because it’s her birthday, it doesn’t mean she’ll be the star of the evening. She sits alone by the pond and wonders why she was born so ugly. Suddenly, a young boy approached her and greeted her politely. Marie was startled. The boy apologized for surprising her and explained he had been invited to the birthday party. Marie pointed toward the entrance, guiding him there. The boy thanked her and called her a maid. His own maid then corrected him, saying that the Shadron family only had one maid, an elderly woman, and no other servants. Realizing his mistake, the boy became flustered and apologized, understanding that Marie must be one of the daughters. Marie’s eyes lit up as she asked if he was from the Absandro Republic. He confirmed that his mother had been a traveling performer from absandros. Marie recognized his traditional formal wear and became excited. She admitted that she had only read about absandrian culture in books. The boy found it unusual that someone from such an isolated country would study absandro. Marie explained that once someone discovered its culture and technology, they would be captivated by it. She was one of those people. The boy shared that his wardrobe was made from absandro silk and even his underclo had to be the same. Marie laughed, saying he was quite fashionable and mentioned that she loved Obsandrian stories. She brought up a tale called the ragged red cat. The boy recognized it instantly. Marie explained how the story followed an abandoned red cat who journeyed with a kind wanderer and grew stronger over time. She said she had red hair and was always in tatters. Relating to the story, suddenly her father’s old words echoed in her mind that a woman who showed off her knowledge was an embarrassment. She quickly bowed and apologized for her behavior, calling it shameful. The boy didn’t understand what was shameful about it. Marie tried to excuse herself, but he asked her to wait. As she turned and looked at him, she thought his eyes were more beautiful than any star. She wondered how someone could be so wonderful and realized that this wonderful man had come to propose to her sister. Compared to her, she felt worthless. Tears quietly streamed down her face. The boy asked if he had offended her in any way. He said if it was because he mistook her for a servant, he would apologize as many times as needed. Marie replied that he had done nothing wrong. Then the boy looked at her clothes and gently asked if there was some special reason behind them. Marie softly answered that there was nothing unusual. She simply wasn’t lovely. The boy was shocked by her words. Marie turned away again and said she had enjoyed speaking with him tonight. As she tried to leave, the boy reached out, gently held her hand, and told her she was beautiful. More tears flowed from Marie’s eyes. She whispered that the evening star was in the salon and told him to go enjoy himself there. Then she walked away. She ran away and went to her shabby room. She thought those are the words I’d always longed to hear. So why does it still hurt this much? One month after that terrible birthday, a letter arrived with a marriage proposal. Their father excitedly said the suitor was highly influential. Anastasia would be marrying upward. Count Granada was expected to inherit the title of duke one day and he was exceedingly wealthy. Their father said she would live more lavishly than the monarch of a small country. Anastasia hesitated, but their father ignored her and told Marie to hurry up and write a reply and to inform the relatives and neighboring nobility. Marie calmly said she would do it at once. Later, in Anastasia’s room, she quietly said she was going to be married to someone whose face she couldn’t even remember. She had heard that Count Granada was a badtempered eccentric who hated women. Marie tried to reassure her. The proposal letter had been so passionate and she was certain he would cherish her. Anastasia walked over to her wardrobe and said there was something she wanted Marie to see. She took out a dress and said how wonderful it looked. Marie being tall suited it perfectly. Marie asked what it was. Anastasia explained it was clothing made for a woman to dress like a man. She said this must be what it means to ask for the moon. She loved how beautiful women looked in men’s clothing and she loved dashing ladies. She had made it all herself. Marie said she didn’t know her sister had such interests and called it amazing. Anastasia asked her to keep it a secret from their parents. They had found similar things before and thrown them away. Anastasia then said that if the Shadron family could no longer support itself and if she had to work someday, she dreamed of opening a shop in the royal capital. She told Marie to make the most of her skills and do work she loved. Marie smiled and thought her older sister was beloved by everyone. She loved her too. But on the way to marry Count Granado, Anastasia lost her life in an accident. Marie remembered how long ago her sister would read the story of the ragged red cat to her. Suddenly, her mother entered the room and slapped her across the face. Her mother screamed that it should have been Marie who died. She hurled cruel words blaming Marie for Anastasia’s death. She called her a murderer and cursed her red hair. Her father tried to stop her and said she would leave marks. Her mother shouted that Marie deserved to be scarred so badly that no one would ever look at her again. Her father then said Marie would take Anastasia’s place and go to Count Granada’s home. Marie in shock asked if she was really supposed to take her sister’s place. Her father said not to worry. He knew she was a hideous little thing. Marie asked why and he explained that they had already sold everything that was sent for the betroal and couldn’t afford to return any of it. The count would be heartbroken by Anastasia’s death and they needed to exploit that. Even if it was just one night of comfort. Once she formed a connection, they would have won. Marie, stunned, repeated his words, “A night of comfort.” Her father told her to be Anastasia’s replacement. This was how she could atone. Marie thought to herself, “Aton atone for what crime?” Then she remembered being born as lowly as her. That was her mistake. A few days later, Marie and her father began their journey to Count Granado’s residence. On the way, her father reminded her to behave obediently and agreeably. Marie nodded and accepted everything he said. He warned that if the count chose to cancel the engagement, she must return home immediately. He claimed he was giving these instructions for her own good, even calling her a failure. Marie quietly thanked him despite the cruelty. He added one last remark that even her smile wasn’t lovable and it would have been better if she had died instead of Anastasia. Marie stayed silent and thought to herself that she was going to the man who had once proposed to her older sister to become his bride. When they arrived at the palace, her father became furious at the gate. He shouted at the guards, demanding to be led in, insisting that they had sent notice in advance. But the staff explained the letter had only just arrived that morning, which made their sudden visit difficult to manage. Her father refused to listen and lost his temper. He insulted the maid, calling her just a servant, and even tried to attack her. But the maid skillfully restrained him and asked him to leave the palace grounds. Before the situation could worsen, Marie stepped forward and bowed deeply. She apologized sincerely for her father’s behavior. Her graceful and respectful manner surprised both the guard and the maid. The maid, suddenly curious, asked for her name. Marie introduced herself as the daughter of the Shaderin family, explaining that she looked nothing like her older sister. The maid immediately instructed the guard to deliver a message to the master of the house. She then welcomed Marie inside and introduced herself as Mio, the head chamberlain. Meanwhile, the count upon hearing Marie Shhatan’s arrival became angry. He said he had proposed to Anastasia, not her younger sister, and refused to meet Marie. He regretted not taking Anastasia away when he had the chance. But before the maid could explain anything further, the count suddenly saw Marie enter. Marie introduced herself formally, trying her best to stay composed. The count was stunned. At the same time, Marie recognized him instantly. He was the boy she had met that night by the pond. She hadn’t expected this at all. Just then, her father interrupted again, trying to smooth things over. He mentioned how Anastasia’s death had delayed the marriage talks and how heartbroken the count must have been. He explained that Marie, being Anastasia’s sister, had come in her place. The count stepped forward, still surprised, and asked if she really was Marie. Her father confirmed it, admitting she didn’t compare well to Anastasia. Before he could say more, the count’s expression darkened with anger. The maid quietly commented on how frightening he looked. The count quickly calmed himself, saying he had lost his composure. He told them to stay the night at the palace and walked away. Marie stood quietly, shocked by everything that had happened. The maid gently informed her that a room would be prepared right away. Later during dinner, Marie asked where her father had gone. The maid replied that he was meeting with the master and suggested Marie relax with a cup of tea. In the meantime, Marie noticed the pleasant aroma and guessed that the tea might be from the Republic of Apendros. The maid was impressed by her knowledge. Marie explained that she once read absandro used spices in their tea for health reasons. The maid confirmed that it was ginger and cinnamon which also paired well with tea from this country. Marie took a sip and was amazed at how delicious it tasted. She praised the tea, calling it incredible. The maid laughed and when Marie asked if she had said something odd, the maid simply said she found Marie quite adorable. Marie was surprised by the word adorable. Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. When the maid opened it, Marie was shocked to see Count Cyro’s Granado standing there. She rushed toward him and apologized for her family’s earlier behavior. Wondering if her father was still around. Cyros calmly explained that her father had already left. After being told there was no need to return the betroal gifts. He had asked instead that the gifts be offered at Anastasia’s grave. Marie was stunned. As she tried to leave, Cyros asked her to wait. He had something he wanted to ask. He asked if Marie had been abused by her family. Marie was caught off guard. She thought about it and admitted to herself that they never treated her kindly, but believed it was part of her training. She explained that her parents were strict so she could survive despite knowing nothing. She said she didn’t know how it looked to him, but she didn’t think it was abuse. Cyros told her to call him by his first name. He disliked being addressed by his family name or title. Marie agreed and addressed him as Cyros. Cyros returned to his question. If she wasn’t mistreated, then why had she been dressed that way on her birthday? Marie hesitated. Cyros explained that those clothes were usually worn by widows or nuns, meant to turn men away. He asked if she intended to become a nun or if she simply hated men. Marie denied both. He then asked if she had been willingly playing the background role to her sister or if she was unhappy in the Shadron family. He told her he couldn’t understand her unless she spoke openly. Marie thought to herself that it wasn’t the life she wanted, but she never imagined escaping it either. She admitted that she hated her time there and quietly said that she wasn’t lovely. Cyros simply replied that he understood and then told the maid Mio to take Marie away. Marie, confused, thought she was being cast out. It had been strange that she was allowed into the palace at all, but Mal gently told her to come along. She said a bath and new clothes had already been prepared. Marie was shocked and had no idea what she meant. Mal led her to a beautiful room. When Marie entered, she was stunned. She realized it was a bath. She couldn’t believe the size of it and thought about how much firewood and water it would require. Cleaning it must also be a lot of work. She assumed they wanted her to chop wood and clean everything to make up for her earlier discourtesy. She thought the count must be a very generous man. Then a cheerful voice called out. It was a woman named Tuna who introduced herself as the keeper of the baths. Mio explained that Tuna knew many bathing and massage techniques that were good for health and beauty. She also understood medicines and their effects. Truly a professional in beauty care. Marie asked what that meant and Tuna clarified that she was a beauty pro. As Marie stood there, she suddenly noticed Tunka had already taken her clothes. Shocked, she asked when that had happened. Mio told her that if Tuna did anything that made her uncomfortable, she was freed to slap her. Marie was confused, still believing she was there to clean the bath. But Tunka corrected her. The one to be beautified was not the bath, but Marie herself. For the first time, Marie took a bath and water filled with flowers. Tuna carefully handled everything, treating her with a kindness and care she had never known. The scene shifts to Count Cyros, who was waiting for Marie. When Marie entered the room in her new dress and with makeup carefully applied, Cyros was stunned by her beauty. As Marie looked at herself in the mirror, she was surprised. She wondered who the beautiful person was staring back at her. Cyros addressed her by name, and Marie politely bowed. He looked away and called for someone named Lulu. A voice answered immediately. Lulu appeared and looked at Marie with strong interest. She teasingly commented that Cyros was more easily swayed by beauty than she expected. Marie quietly repeated the words to herself. good looks. Cyros reminded Lulu to take this seriously. He explained that the head of the family had to approve any noble betrodal, so the decision rested entirely with her. Marie was surprised to realize that this woman was Cyros’s mother. She recalled that Cyros had once mentioned his mother was from Sandro. Lulu looked at Marie and shook her head. She said Marie was lacking. Cyros tried to protest, but his mother explained what she meant. Marie lacked confidence. A future duchess had to carry herself with pride, nobility, and strength. At least by the wedding day, she had to stand tall. Then Lulu said the real work was only beginning and she would help however she could. Cyros was grateful and thanked his mother. The maid congratulated Marie, who responded with thanks, still unsure what was happening. When she asked why she was being congratulated, the maid explained that the duchess had approved her engagement to Cyros. Marie was now officially his fianceé. Marie was shocked to hear this. The entire staff around them offered their congratulations to both Cyros and Marie. Lulu smiled and said that her son was finally getting married and now she could finally rest. Cyros reminded her it was still too early for that as even the betroal ceremony hadn’t been held yet. His mother agreed. Cyros then suggested sending a messenger to decide the date for the ceremony. Marie, still overwhelmed, quietly stepped forward and admitted that she couldn’t do this. With that, the first episode comes to an end. Good anime
Is this anime or manhwa?🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
So they're just evil to the one daughter for the hell of it? That's what always makes it impossible to get into stories like this. At least for people with more than two functional braincells. There has to be a reason why two parents would only abuse one child. With Tyrion Lannister, we know it's because he's a dwarf, and in his heart Tywin always suspected that Tyrion was the result of his wife cheating on him. Here, BOTH parents are just psychotically cruel for the hell of it and that ruins the story
Poor girl 😢
Next part 2 please 🙏🙏
Ohh that new one looks nice and the couple seems cute 😍
Just saw this and man its missing a lot of information. So im guessing the red is an illegitimate daughter since she has red hair and his oldest and youngest are blond. Second i think the oldest faked her death as no body was shown, and she told her sister her plans of what she wants to do in life.
Marie looks very feminine, she just has an athletic female build. Marie is more beautiful than her sister. I di like how Anastasia actually is nice to Marie and in secret helps her out when she can.😊
Who wants to bet the older sister read her that story of the red cat, and faked her death, so her sister could escape by marriage?
Wow….he desides everything for her and can't even explain, just like her fahter, she needs to go and follow the maid…and FL..😮💨 yeah ok she is shy and doesn't question anything.
So Cinderela story if a kind
Anime name?
Marie is really beautiful. I do believe she was an illegititmate child. Her sister was the only one who treated her with kindness. I know Marie will be happy here cause the Duke's family and servents treat her so kindly. She lacks confidence and how her family treated her. It makes a lot of sense but I know she will heal in time!
She's the queen Elizabeth in anime
Which days do new episodes are released? And how many episodes will it have?
