The Summer Hikaru Died Episode 1 reaction – 光が死んだ夏 1話 海外の反応

What is up, guys? Back in today with another reaction on the channel. Today, I’ll be reacting to the first episode of The Summer Hikaru Died. Managed to avoid pretty much everything for this. Um, don’t even think I’ve read the synopsis. I haven’t checked out any of the trailers, uh, just because I am already 100% kind of invested in this show. Um, I’ve heard the source material is really good. Again, I don’t actually know too much, so I can’t really speak about it. But, uh, the production, I believe, is by Saiame Pictures, which last season done, The Apocalypse Hotel, which very well could be the anime of last season, uh, was a huge surprise for me. Anime original, and they just done a fantastic job with that show, looks wise, production-wise, the story they created, the characters, everything just was amazing. So, uh, the studio is really good. Um, I believe again people have been telling me that the story is really good. Um, it kind of from just going off nothing really. It kind of gives the vibes of like a higarashi summertime rendering type deal, which are two of my favorite anime and I love that kind of genre of like mystery kind of horroresque anime. So, very excited to get into it. Uh, let me know what you guys think about this one though down in the comment section. So yeah, I didn’t really want to like being a mystery anime, I don’t really want to know too much going in. Uh again, Summertime Render was an absolute surprise to me. I thought it was going to be like a shownen like the the cover of it was all the characters with like power tools. I thought it would be some crappy kind of shownen about power tool kind of powers or something and it to it was far away from that. Um and I ended up absolutely loving it. So hopefully this one can be similar. What the hell? Very strange tree. I love looking up all those videos of like special kind of um branches that are of like guns and stuff. I think that’s really cool. Oh, so that tree snap. Did that tree snap on him? Judging by the title, he’s dead. Um, and this is his friend. Probably a bunch bunch of other people. Maybe the police searching for him. Um, looks like Yeah, looks like he got randomly hit by like a maybe there was a strike of lightning or something on that tree and it hit him. That’s pretty cool. Made out of a pan. Mhm. He does speak quite funny, doesn’t it? Sounds a bit like a delinquent. This is afterwards and he’s just come back like nothing happened. It’s half a year afterwards. Interesting. But yeah, he sounded very desperate when he was searching for you. So, used to care about you quite a lot. So, just judging from what we did see, obviously I can’t explain it, but it looks like some kind of organism kind of melded with him or something. something along those lines. Maybe he’s like an imposter. He know that he’s not Hikaru is think he just think he’s Hikaru like is the whatever happened that thing was it like conscious? It is. Oh [ __ ] I thought it would be a bit of a longer kind of waiting game with this to figure this out. Huh. Wow. This is almost a bit like parasite but Jesus. Kill you. Yeah, it’s a bit like Parasite with Miggy, but Miggy is um if Miggy was the whole person, I guess, and a lot less uh analytical. Interesting. It al also feels a little bit like um To Your Eternity, which I only saw the first season of because I didn’t watch the second because they just absolutely copyright struck every video I made about that show. So, it was a pain in the ass getting my channel back and getting all those videos back months. But yeah, interesting. So, it does keep his personality and his looks and such, but it it isn’t him. And obviously, a best friend is able to tell that’s not him. So, it’s not like a perfect replication. This guy is so pain, isn’t it? I think we saw a release of all those emotions a minute ago when he was talking to the fake Aikari, didn’t we? just it all come kind of pouring out then it’s still so painful for him. I mean, you understand that someone especially if if your best friend would be massively affected, but he is especially kind of affected. So, we’re in Hokkaido. We love a show set in Hokkaido. I don’t know. I don’t know though. I don’t know about that. I’ll assume that’s the case. But I do wonder what the story is going to be like now. Cuz again, I I assumed they would spend more time kind of maybe figuring out if that is like the real him or not. But it’s just like right off the bat, yes, you’re an imposter. Like now it’s going to be about the relationship between them now, which going to be very strange, isn’t it? Just to pause for a second, it almost reminds me a little bit of um how generic romance from last season to an extent, but I I don’t think they’ve done this very well. But more so kind of like Silent Hill um and what they do in terms of like growing past regret and and moving on through past these things. just like it’s really it’s really interesting because how will he ever really be able to get past that emotion we saw earlier in the scene where he just woke up that pain he felt how will he ever really be able to get past that when he when he can’t because he’s kind of always it’s not he’s not like fully gone Hikaro is he’s actually like there’s an imposttor in his place kind of um I’m not sure he’ll be able to deal with this in a good way is maybe what I’m trying to say here I’m not sure this It’s healthy that his dead friend is constantly in front of him and just acting like nothing happened when he did actually die. If that makes sense. And again, I really really find interesting like really find relationships like that quite interesting. So, this doesn’t seem quite as mystery heavy as I thought it would be. I don’t think America. And this entity has just been enjoying its time as a as a normal kid. Hey, interesting behavior from whatever that thing is. I brought up the example of Miggy earlier and that was like a being that totally um why is he why is he pointing the hamster at it? Um, yeah, that was a being that like totally prioritized its own survival above everything else. And this doesn’t seem some kind of wall alien being thing. Maybe I was wrong about it not being too mystery changed by two over the span of two minutes twice. Interesting. So, it can like it can seem merge with inanimate objects as well, whatever this thing is. And there’s multiple of it. The way Hikaru reacted, it almost seems like they were connected to some extent though, right? I I don’t know. Interesting. This guy obviously knows what’s going on. So, he’s going to be an important character. 100 years I do just want to go back quickly. Sorry to pause again. So, what was the hamster stuff about? I mean, there’s must be a reason he pointed the [ __ ] hamster wheel to search for it. Yeah, it said mummy. Was it Maybe it was hiding. Maybe it was a human and then it tried hiding. Maybe it was like Maybe it took over their little boy or something and then it and then it kind of transformed into the bit of wood in the back hide from this guy. Quite sad, honestly. As much as creepy as it kind of looks, little bit sad. Very interesting start. I assumed it would be 10:59. Very interesting start. Again, it does feel quite a lot like Parasite. It’s a very good show. They’ve been doing this for a long ass time. Company’s been about 100 years. Not for him. Everybody else is asleep. I tell you what, the character designs look a little bit like the designs of characters from Chainsaw Man, to be honest. Little bit reminiscent. Oh, bloody hell. They’re good at sculptures, aren’t they? That is incredible. The crashed Oh. Yeah, I love these kind of settings. This kind of almost rustic kind of oldish master master. Yeah, these like oldish kind of towns. little little Yeah, something really cool about that. Okay, that’s a nice little view of things. Those eyes like I think you very easily be able to tell that’s not a human with eyes like that, right? Those eyes are crazy. He also had a kangji. I think I said car ectopplasm. He’s a big boy, isn’t he? Wonder how he’s going to react to Hikaru. Danger. Danger. Custom animals usually have a pretty damn good instinct. The nature of things, humans, this in this case, not human. She recognizes him. Let’s play the question. Like if his best friend can figure out it’s not him, surely you’d think his parents might be able to figure out that that’s not their son as well, right? Or is it the case as you see there? Maybe that was one of that was his mom and he’s kind of like living elsewhere and like I don’t know. I’m not sure how that would work logistically. I would just assume that he was had the same living conditions that he had before. It’d be kind of weird if he didn’t. What you I I agree. This is messed up. just in a kind of never- ending state now of not of depression of his friend’s death, but not ever really growing past it because he’s it’s not even really still there, but an image of him is still there. It’s like he’s in this immovable kind of um what’s the place between heaven and hell? Forget what it’s called now. Purgatory. That’s the place. He’s like in this purgatory essentially. He knows what’s going on as well. Something about some mountain god or something coming down. Look like Terminator. Hope that woman isn’t dead tomorrow. assimilated. All right, the same happened. Are you actually though or is it just your is it just your memories remembering liking him along? I feel like he probably is genuinely saying that kind of feels that way. But yeah, as as I just pointed out, you can’t really be sure. And I’m interested to see what happens with Hakara now. Does he go back to his house and live as he did before? Oh god. I assumed this would happen. What is with the way she looks? Why are her eyes like that? Oh, he’s definitely not a vampire. We know that for sure. Won’t be allowed in. If not. Oh jeez. Jesus. I’m really not sure what the hell to think about that whole last segment. What the hell? Um, really interesting. Really interesting stuff going on here. Again, I’m really not sure what to make of all this. I I kind of think that one one of the reasons evidently as we saw him talk with I I don’t know the main boy’s name, so apologies about that. Hikaru, the name Hikaru has been said a lot, so obviously I know that name. But um our main character here when he was kind of almost getting um he was like, “Yeah, don’t tell anyone. I’ll have to kill you.” We actually we saw a situation where this old woman realized that he is whatever he is and he had he did kill her and and it’s a case with him. He he probably does like him because otherwise not if not he probably would have killed him as well. It almost feels like not just to protect his identity but to protect his relationship with our main character. He’s killed this old woman. Like it doesn’t feel like it’s just for his survival and just him going under the radar. You know what I’m saying? It does feel like there is more to him killing this old lady. I’m not sure what the deal with her is. Why does she look so demonic? So, what is this method of killing? Literally like entering them. Strange frame was to kill someone. Really interesting start though. Big fan. Big fan already. That’s her mother. No new no key. So this is like a widely so there is some kind of like widely known about um myth or legend or in this case an actuality uh surrounding this. It seems like it’s not just this crazy old woman or what you considered the crazy old woman who usually ends up actually being the voice of reason in horror movies and stuff funnly enough. Um, but there’s at least like this these two that old man we just saw and the p and the woman and the man with the glasses we saw like exercising these things. I’ll say there’s at least like five people that know about whatever the hell’s going on around here or at least have some kind of clue. Um, if it’s to do with the actuality of what’s going on or if it’s to do with this myth that probably has quite a lot in common with what’s actually happening. Um yeah, this is like a a reasonably well known about thing which I’m sure we’ll find out more about this kind of religion and this um ritual that she’s done here and so on. Interesting. So he is going to be arriving here at the the root of the issues I do assume. Awesome. Okay, I love that. I love that. Uh, no open or ending today. I’m hoping we I hope the show does have an open ending and I hope we get to see him next episode. But really awesome introductory episode here. Love this. Uh, again, love the vibes of it. Kind of small town. Just kind of some of my favorite types of stories. just these like small secluded kind of old rustic kind of towns that have um something like introduced maybe like an old myth that kind of comes to pass or um some kind of alien or whatever the hell is going on here. They just always said like in Jojo’s like part four was my favorite majorly because of that reason. It all feels so kind of compact and feels like much more of a community when it’s when it’s like all smaller and such and and I brought up like Higarashi and Summertime Render and such that they always end up being some of my favorite genre of shows just like small town secluded um things going on. Uh what is that TV series by David Lynch? I can’t remember what it’s called, but um that series I’ve heard is very good as well. And a lot of of these types of things are kind of based on that. Um Twin Peaks, I think it’s called. Uh I need to watch that, but it’s it’s quite long. I do think I did go to watch it at some point, but um yeah, away from the point, I thought this was a really good episode. Really interesting dynamics with the relationships of our main character whose name I didn’t get, so apologies. But um like this here is just like it’s it’s so intimate yet not like he obviously has so much emotion towards Hikaru and it’s just not because this is not Hikaru but there is still that kind of yeah it’s just really really an interesting relationship. I’m looking forward to seeing how it kind of develops and what goes on with this. Um, I mean, again, he literally kind of put a threat to his life if anyone was to like find out he wasn’t actually Hikaru. But we did see him kill a woman that actually knew as well. So, it’s like there is a special place for him, isn’t there? Don’t want to have to kill you. Again, it gives me a lot of mixtures of vibes of like shows I’ve seen before, which is And they’re all really good shows. So yeah, I enjoyed this premiere a hell of a lot and looking forward to figure out uh more as we do go into the future. Um I don’t think there’s a whole lot we can kind of gather today, but plenty of little kind of details here and there that I think I did speak about.
