ジャッキー・ファーノー:7年間、20カ国、1台のロイヤルエンフィールド・バレット|エクセター・ライダー・インタビュー

hi everyone exit rider Hope you’re doing well So this week I’m out on the Royal Enfield uh Bullet 350 and shortly I’m going to be meeting somebody very very special and uh quite well known actually and that is Jackie Ferno And I’m going to be having a chat with her about her adventures her bikes and uh just anything in general We’ll see what happens But uh it’s going to be a good conversation So I hope you enjoy it and let’s get straight into it There she is Jackie’s just arrived So uh we’ll be having a quick coffee and a chat in a moment Hello It’s brilliant You bought the old one as well That’s great You bought the older 350 I thought you might bring the the newer one So that’s great The new one Oh is it yeah All right Okay I thought that’s what we were after wasn’t it yeah No it’s lovely to meet you Thanks so much for coming along All right Lovely to lovely to meet you And you too Yeah Finally Yeah Yeah Oh how lovely What a lovely day It is lovely I’ll get you a coffee And that’s what I was thinking I’ll take the long way back I think I was hoping Yeah I’m going to do the same I’m thinking I might go to Mine Head after this Oh lovely Um but the road that I thought would be nice to go down they closed off and they so Yeah Oh no But we got another place over there but um it should be all right Um so what got you into motorcycle travel then let’s start right at the beginning Well it was an accident and uh I was backpacking in India and I met a Dutchman who was riding on a 500cc Enfield bullet and we met in a restaurant I was planning to go on a camel ride and I had lots of uh broches with me to decide which camel ride I was going to go on into the tar desert and bumped into him He had this funnyl looking motorbike and I I thought well that looks an old bike but it doesn’t look worn So I asked him about it and we ended up having lunch together and anyway I forgot all about the camel safari and cuz he said well why don’t you hop on the back of the bike and we’ll go off into the tar desert together on this So I thought yes okay I’d been in India long enough that such such things that happened like that were quite normal to jump on somebody’s bike and go off and do something cuz India has that effect on one Yeah And were you riding bikes back in the UK yes I’d been riding bikes since I was 24 I was then 48 and I had had various bikes um all that time And where did this sense of adventure grab you then where did that come from i think it’s it it started with my father who um was in the merchant navy and he said uh travel idea travel and uh he he’d spent a long time in China and he he loved exploring and uh seeing what it was like in other countries And um during uh my marriage we we did a lot of traveling together and abroad or with the children Well over to France mostly And and so we went on camping holidays in France and I loved all that I was a girl guide I loved the outdoor life and fresh air and tents So it was it was wonderful for me Yeah And basically you left one day and you went traveling for was seven eight years wasn’t it yes It was never intended to be like that at all the the the going back to the Dutchman um uh who I call Henry cuz in the book uh he he said “Well why don’t you buy a bike like mine and we’ll we’ll travel together.” Mhm And I thought “Well that sounds like a good idea.” And he was It does sound like a good idea It was great fun He was a lot younger than me and uh he was an ex lifeguard and I thought well yes I could do I could I could enjoy myself here and I love motorcycling and I love travel so everything fitted together really well So off we went Cutting a long story short I did go back to Chennai and buy my uh my Royal Enfield 500 Yeah Um which is um currently um somewhere else but it’s back on the road So it’s still it’s still going It’s 25 now When will we see that bike are you going to take it around to the show so you’re going to see the ABR this year I’m going to the ABR and fingers crossed the old bike will be there Excellent I’d love to see that Yeah Oh you will cuz I know it was at the Morton Hamstead Museum at one point wasn’t it it was It was having a bit of a rest Yeah And uh but then the museum closed Nothing to do with my bike I hope And then and then it was decided that it would live again And so it’s been I’ve had the um the top end done and the new um a new port where the exhaust pipe fits in It’s been made round again so it fits the exhaust pipe So that’s good The What’s the difference between having the 350 that like the new one and your old one what are the differences there cuz they’re worlds apart no doubt aren’t they well they are I’ve had this one for just a year actually um this month and it hasn’t gone wrong Yeah Yeah And all all I have to do is oil the chain and make sure the oil is topped up and um check the chain is is nice and the right um tension and tension Thank you And uh that’s all you have to do Yes and I’ve just uh come down here this morning on the motorway from Bristol to meet you and never missed a beat all the time So if you were doing another big trip would it be that one or would would it be the old bike ooh that’s that’s a tough one That’s a hard one Well when you when you’ve got an old bike that tends to go wrong you do have to take all that into consideration So you have to carry a lot of spares with you and a lot of tools What was the classic thing that went wrong with the old bike was there a common thing no not really I mean broken cables punctures Oh so many punctures Um but mechanically it it didn’t really break down at all Right Were you good on mechanics for you not really Well with with when I was traveling with Henrikas he taught me I had to learn how to do various things like replacing cables and um adjusting adjusting the carburetor and things like that and uh the tapets all that had to be done So general maintenance I learned to do Yeah But as for diving into the engine to do anything in there no not without somebody there Well well if I’d had to I would have had a go Did you ever find yourself stuck out in middle nowhere and and really in trouble you know because you couldn’t work out what it was or that went wrong no Um and the only time it was ever on a breakdown truck was um when I returned to um the UK with the bike who which was an export it had never it wasn’t uh made in Britain So I had to it had to pass a single vehicle test and um it the examiner was testing the emissions Mhm And he made me rev it up and it didn’t like it and it jumped out of neutral into first gear Oh no Jammed the gearbox and that was the only time it’s ever been on a breakdown truck Right So it’s still done you done you well then hasn’t it yes How many miles did you put on that one well it’s on its second second odometer and every now and again I add them together The last time I did it oo it was about 85 90,000 Wow Yeah Miles and um still going strong and it’s going to live again Yes Yeah Yeah So like like you say this must be a slight breath of fresh air with it more refined engine and Oh it’s a lovely engine Yeah Fantastic aren’t they beautiful Beautiful It does everything I joined uh a friend of mine on a a tour in Spain last year and there were bikes of much greater power than this and and my Enfield went everywhere they did at the same speed Yeah And handled I would say much better than some of them Yes Yeah Because on the hairpin Benz just loves them Yes Yeah Yeah Fly around there Yeah Um of all the countries that you’ve been are there any that you would like to return to and do again or see more of um yes And I have been back to Australia which is so huge you can’t see it all in one go So I I did go back in 2018 and 19 to spend the winter and went to a different part of Australia because going back to the same place is a it can be disappointing So I thought I would just try somewhere different So instead of being at the top end with it in Northern Territory and Northern Queensland um I I went to Melbourne and together with a friend went explored Tasmania Oh lovely And that was interesting I’ve heard that’s lovely over there There’s another YouTuber that we know I can’t remember his name I’ll put it up on screen Uh who lives over there and it’s absolutely beautiful isn’t it yes Very very nice Very nice Yeah Anywhere else well India of course Yeah You like India don’t you i have a great love of India Yes because it’s where my bike came from It’s where the whole sevenyear trip started It’s it it’s just lovely for riding through once you get used to the traffic rules Yeah Well there aren’t any rules Well ba basically people do try to drive on the left but uh that’s not always the way And it’s just uh it’s just great fun What about Europe you’ve done a lot of Europe or Yes Yes Um with the old bike been to uh Spain France uh Italy Yes And last year no the year before went to Greece and back on it with the Royal Enfield Owners Club International Rally was this one No that was that’s on the other one Oh that was the old one Oh right Okay Yeah On the 500 Yeah And which is lovingly called bike Yes And anyway we we went down we went to Greece on that and and back And uh yes it was me that broke down on the way back Uh had a slip disc and had to come home in a lorry but that was that was quite fun in the end And what’s your advice to anyone who wants to travel where where do we start these days if they wanted to you just get up and go I mean that’s what most people say just do it But Well yes Sometimes easier said than done Well it is and uh I have no responsibilities now So I can take off whenever I like for however long I like Um the time will will be right for for everyone to think right this is it And you don’t have to go for seven years That wasn’t the intention at all when I went But just go for a month or even two weeks or a week Yeah So I can see the attraction I I’m one of those that’s never really yearned to go traveling as such probably because of all the other responsibilities in life But I know that when I if I ever did go I’d probably be the same I’ll probably just want to keep going Yes Just get on a ferry and go And in in in my case don’t have a plan and just well vague plan Oh yes I’d like to go and see this or that or there and make your way there But u don’t stick to any particular plan if you’ve got time I’m lucky I’ve had time to do as much traveling as I wanted to Yes And you don’t use uh satnav do you you just um I use it for going through cities or if I’ve got to be at a certain place at a certain time But when I’m traveling and I have all this time I can meander wherever I want to and get lost which is half the fun for me I suppose if you’re carrying a tent then you can go anywhere really can’t you yeah Carry a tent and there’s usually somewhere to stay Yeah Yeah Find somewhere I I don’t use it routinely but I’m I’m I’m not silly I will use it rather than get lost if I have a deadline Do you prefer riding alone or with somebody else that’s another difficult one Um well it depends and you’ve got to be really careful who you choose to travel with You’ve got to make sure a you’re going to be going at the same sort of speed Yes That you’ve got the same sort of budget in mind that um you get on well uh and all all sorts of other things and and you know if you’re traveling chemistry really isn’t it what it is and also you’ve got to establish does this person like camping and that person wants to stay in a five-star hotel Yeah Um does this person eat anything or are there dietary restrictions uh I’m lucky I eat anything Um which means like me but which means I’m not restricted to what and where I eat So that that is something that needs sorting out be before you go Um what else well yeah just general chemistry It really just general chemistry and and what what your what your expectations are Yeah you know does somebody want to go as fast as possible to the next destination and book into a um hotel or just bumble along and see where you end up that’s the good thing about these bikes and I said that in my review is that they almost force you to slow down in life and look around a bit Do you know what I mean true you know cuz many times I’ve been out on this and I think I’ve been going to work on it and it’s just been a joy really cuz it it slows me up and I’m looking around a bit more taking it all in Yes I never found it too slow You know a lot of people say to me in the comments “Oh it’s a 350 It’s going to be too slow It’s going to hold people up.” It doesn’t at all No You know I’ve come up here on the motorway So have you You come That’s right on the motorway It does 70 I’m still in second lane all the time limited vibrations for a sing single cylinder you know I think it’s it’s brilliant Um well I was once coming back from Portsmouth and I thought I I just want to get home now and so I was batting up the M5 and and I was quite surprised I thought well people say it’s not very good on the motorway So I thought well I’ll just see how fast it will go And I was going over 80 and that was with fully laden Yes Uh with camping equipment everything Yes Yes And so I thought no that’s that’s not good It’s efficient Yeah it’s fine Yeah it’s um Yeah I never never felt any need for for speed to be honest No Um I guess the only times I have felt it is when you gone up Telegraph Hill which is like a long steep hill it drops down to 60 and you’re fully pinned Yes But apart from that go get over the other side off you go again So Yeah I’m I’m maybe doing a bit too much weaving about and everything You sure yeah No you don’t need to look into it I’m the same I do that And believe me whatever you feel like now when it goes out on camera it it really doesn’t make no difference Okay Okay Yeah it’s it’s not a it’s a weird thing isn’t it being on camera It’s Yeah I tend to No you’re not doing that at all Honestly it’s absolutely fine How has travel changed your life then well it completely changed my life Um meeting um Henrik has um completely changed my life Still in contact with him very occasionally on Facebook he will make a comment about something I’ve posted Um he was very pleased when I got a new bike and was very pleased Um but no we we’re not in in contact anymore So was he on the Roy Anfield as well was he yes Yeah Yeah That’s uh that’s that’s what attracted my attention in the beginning I thought “Whatever is that?” Yeah Yeah Then I’ve ended up having two of them myself Yes So yes I don’t He’s He’s in Australia now so I don’t know I think he’s staying there So I Yeah And would you ever go back to any of the other brands or you know like the Japanese brands or No No I know what you mean Yeah Once they get under your in your veins Oh I know this I don’t know what it is but like they’re charming and more than charming They’re efficient Well this this is so efficient They’re so cheap to run aren’t they yes Yeah And was it £50 tax £45 tax a year or something like that uninsurance wise Yeah Uninsurance Yeah Yes So pretty I’m pretty pleased with it on the whole In fact I can’t find anything wrong with it No And what about the Meteor how do you get on with that i like that I rode that a meteor recently in Greece In Greece Yeah And uh was getting through olive groves and vineyards off because we were following um Satnav So it took us on a shortcut Oh right Yeah It was great fun because we did sort of make some chickens fly up into the air as we went past Yes Um but uh No it was it was very good Yeah and the people that you met along the way I guess that’s a massive thing Oh gosh Yes Well it is it’s it’s the it is the biggest part because once you’ve seen all the highest mountains you know I’ve been to the Himalayas and I’ve been down to uh beautiful beaches in Indonesia and uh and Goa and the rivers and the forests and jungles Yeah Once you’ve seen all those and they’re absolutely beautiful and have to be seen um it is the people that you meet that are the main joy that it’s everybody you meet is like a a diamond or a jewel to be to be exploring this And people are generally really really kind and helpful Yeah And I’ve never had any trouble from anyone except skippers on boats Oh yes Yeah And you have to read the book for that one Yeah That was quite interesting No more of those Thanks Yeah but they they um the people when they when you broke your leg and the people that took you in and looked after you and Yeah I stayed with those people for months Yeah 6 months wasn’t it seven months Well about three Then I was able to move move out All right Um and and stagger around with this metal frame around my leg So yes that was actually quite good fun in the end To imagine people being like that in this country isn’t it it is not not going down that make you wonder if um if a Pakistani person was in that situation whether they would be taken in I don’t know maybe they would but that’s what happened to me and I was given a home It’s wonderful for months That’s part of the reason I like YouTube so much It’s not making the videos or getting the bikes or anything like that but the people that I met along the way you know uh I have more connection with than what I do some of my friends that I’ve known since school if you see what I mean cuz all bikes bring people together don’t they oh they do They do And mix that in with travel then you’ve got a double wham whammy of of greatness What a combination Yeah Have you got any trips planned coming up or I’ve already been away four times this year so I think I’m I do like Britain and Europe in the summer Yes And so I have no plans but I could always be tempted Yes I have heard that they’re going to make it a little bit more difficult getting around Europe aren’t they with car was it car or some Yeah I heard something I don’t know what it is You have to more paperwork more red tape Yeah Yes Um and when you do go to Europe do you just do the same thing you just think “I’m going to go and off you go.” And you don’t book any hotels No No I I hardly ever book a hotel right in advance i That would terrify me Really i wouldn’t know what to do I don’t like camping so you know I’ll be pretty stuck on that So no I’ve um I’ve just been reading something I wrote a while ago about ending up in France So I was on my way to Germany and I had nothing booked and I thought oh I want to go to EE and have a look at that on my way to Germany So saw the I was on a motorway and I saw a sign saying somewhere else he didn’t want to go So I thought I better get off and ended up in a industrial area and there was um an oil refinery behind me and huge factories heavy engineering but there was um uh a pond a lake and it was clearly used for fishing and duck shooting because there were hides So I just camped there for the night and this will do And as long as I looked in front not behind at the oil refinery it was all right Lovely place to stay Yes Blackberries for breakfast in the morning You got a favorite place in Europe that you like riding or i do love France right and southern end I guess Italy and Spain Yeah Yeah Everywhere Uh I see people’s videos on on Italy and Spain I just think “Oh that that’s great.” I found myself in the Doommites a couple of years ago quite by accident And I thought “Oh this is this is lovely.” So the um hairpin bends and the old Enfield was whizzing around the bends Yes And we got a round of applause when we arrived at the top of the pass by people that had gone past me Yes So yeah And would you take that that one you know next time on bigger trips or would it be the old 500 i think I’m I might continue to rest the old bullet a little bit Yeah Um you’ve been spoiled now haven’t you well yes And it is nice knowing that it’s not going to go wrong So um but I I have got a fondness for the old bike very much And I was out on it at the weekend Yeah Did about I don’t know about 70 miles on it and it was just lovely But I have have to remember to change over Yeah That could get messy Yes I was all right this morning coming on this one It’s funny how quickly you can get back into it Yeah Yeah Brilliant Um quickfire questions Okay Uh how has travel changed your understanding of yourself oh greatly Um mainly through people I have traveled with Um but travel has made me realize that the world is not a scary place and that people are lovely and helpful everywhere you go Excellent What does the meaning of success mean to you now since traveling Since traveling Uh the meaning of success being happy and um at peace with myself Mhm Yeah Uh what have you learned about resilience through travel getting through those tough times and leeches stuck to you and pulling them off and Yes It isn’t always smooth going and um it it sounds like the idilic life which of course it is but things do go wrong and I think the thing I’ve learned is not to worry Either you will work it out for yourself to to repair the bike or yourself or the situation Yeah Or other people will come and help or if you just wait something will happen and you’ll you’ll solve the problem Yeah Bruce Smarter always says that He says that it’s strange You could be in the middle of nowhere and be in trouble and then all of a sudden somebody would come by on their bike That’s happened to me so many times Yeah Yeah I I’d crossing a river and the bike just fell flat on its side and I could see all the bubbles coming out of my luggage that was in Indonesia and I hadn’t seen a soul all day and I’d been down this awful track across sand and then fell splat in the river and all of a sudden this couple came up on a scooter out of nowhere Out of nowhere they were actually riding along the river and picked me up and sent me on my way Excellent And it was just incredible And then I didn’t see anybody else for the rest of the day Yeah How many times have you come close to just saying “I’ve had enough now I think I want to go home.” Does that is that a common thought when you’re out and about or when you’re traveling i have asked myself “What am I doing this for?” Mhm Um and but then every day is an is is exciting but it can be very sy You know you get up in the morning you load the bike you go off or you think “Oh I’ll stay here for a bit.” But eventually you move on and you think well actually why am I doing this Uh when I could be doing something else and then you think well what else do I want to do and it’s such a it’s such a lovely life Yeah Yeah But it can be aimless And how long does it take you to get if you haven’t been traveling for a year for example and you get on your bike and go how long does it take you to feel like you’re in that traveling sort of mode if you see what I mean Did because some people say it takes like a month to sort of settle into it and and actually feel like you’re on a an adventure Did you find that or was it it pretty instant as soon as I load up my bike the old one and um put the tent on and get make my way to the ferry I think here I go again And uh I wonder what’s going to happen this time Yeah But very exciting I don’t want to do a seven-year trip anymore Well that was a one thing that I I I have no desire to go off for that because you got the t-shirt and you’re not interested Exactly I’ve done that and marvelous as it was I like shorter trips now And my family is very very important to me now I don’t want to be away from them Yes All that long No No That’s understandable Brilliant But any more quick fires i’m sure there is You right for some more yeah If you if you need them to pad it out or [Music] uh that’s good Well what decide what made you decide to write a book uh well I was doing talks Now how did it start let me think At first I thought well nobody will be interested in in what I’ve um what the trip I’ve done because um I enjoyed it so much I don’t expect everybody else to be interested in it And to be honest I didn’t think it was anything very special Right And then word started getting round and people said “You’ve done what?” Yeah And I thought “Oh well I suppose it is a bit unusual.” And then somebody suggested I write a magazine article So I wrote a magazine article several Yeah And then gradually people said “We really should write a book.” Then I thought they were just being kind and uh so it took seven years for me to start writing the book Yeah And another three to actually get it to fruition and all that I guess that was hard right isn’t it trying to actually get it printed Very hard for me to sit still for the time required In fact as a practice I did an A level at my local six form college I did A-level history just to see what it just to see if I could sit down for long enough to write it Yeah And uh when I was successful at that then I moved on All right Have you got enough for another book do you reckon yes In fact I’ve just finished one and it’s I’m sending it chapter by chapter to the uh type setter at the moment So there’ll be a lot of people watching this excited about that Now there will be another one Yeah When that’s crew that’s a crew question I don’t I don’t know how long do these things take because the last time it was all a bit of a rush Uh I don’t know by the end of the year I hope Yeah Yeah We’ll see Yeah And would you write books i mean I guess that second book is about your sevenyear travels The second book is about the travels I’ve done subsequently Oh is it oh good That was my next question I have been round and about here and there to back to Australia back to India um Cuba Europe Germany um where else um Copenhagen Goodwood all sorts of things So it’s little little snippets Not a seven-year trip this time Yeah Yeah Yeah Shorter trips I was going to ask if you got a favorite place that we’ve already kind of done that It’s India really isn’t it that that you that you enjoy Australia every everywhere I’ve been is a favorite place when I’m there Yes Yeah And I’ve never wanted to leave anywhere because I haven’t liked it You’re right And do you try and get the seasons right as well so no You just really not buggy if it if it gets really wet or you get four days of rain or No No Wouldn’t he would it well I might not set off in the in January Well no I did actually set off February one year to go to Spain right and it was dreadful So I would probably think about that twice Is that Norway i hear good things Yeah Good things about Norway right yeah Apart from the price of things but a lot of people seem to go over there Um but I know I know in my circle since that live show people know who you are Do you know what I mean and they they want they they’ll love this Oh will they yeah I mean saddle bags Jeff down in Cornwall Um you liked his Facebook page didn’t you did you yeah Remember that yeah Yeah Um so since then like everything’s you know even on his last ride out he said uh cuz you liked his page when he done his social ride just before about two weeks before and everybody’s saying “God Jackie is coming.” And so we’re all there and it was chucking down with rain and then and and then Yeah So we thought “Oh maybe you’re coming like you know that’s fine now It’s fine that you didn’t cuz we we shouldn’t expect it but we just thought maybe.” Oh really yeah Yeah Yeah But that’s not it’s nothing to do with you It’s just cuz you you liked his page two weeks before Thought a Yeah Yeah Maybe some something was happening there But uh Well say hello to him for me Yeah Yeah I would do Yeah Yeah So nice that people are enthusiastic and and that’s all I want really is to get people enthusiastic about their bikes and to um I just you don’t have to go miles away No miles away I mean the ride this this is great for me I’m going to not go on the motorway on the way back I’m going to toot In fact I’m going to see if my friend is at her farm Yeah And then I’ll I’ll call in there Yeah Yeah And spend an hour I think I might pop down to Minehead go through the back roads on the way home and uh yeah have a nice Yeah little little little blimble down there Um yes How are we for petrol oh I’ve still got loads What’s Did the old bike have a fuel gauge no No No Oh I had to get myself very good at mental arithmetic because I knew how far I could go on a tank and I could see how many miles I’d done so I’d know when I needed to fill up Yeah Which was most useful in Australia Um because I thought right can I can I get that far because there’s no filling stations between here and there Yes So my mental arithmetic chamber You put that in Actually my BMW hasn’t got a gauge and I have to really keep an eye on it When that little yellow light comes on I need to get to a garage It’s one of them bikes How How much grace does it give you uh 15 miles right yeah I went down to Cornwall one day I filled it up went down uh with saddle bags again on his little ride out and another YouTuber Um went rain went home and I thought it’ll be all right you know a little yellow light comes on And of course I get to Ted Bay St Mary which is about I don’t know eight miles out of Exod and I you know and I thought just get me to the next junk junction cuz obviously breaking down on carriageway is expensive Yeah So I knew the fuel pump was on the right hand side So I was doing this down the motorway and everyone’s going “What the hell is he doing?” And I just kept it on the right hand side Didn’t know what you were doing Yeah Exactly You were doing Yeah Yeah I was Yeah The bike was on the right hand side and um I pulled off and it got me home and I just never again No yellow light station Oh this is such a horrible feeling isn’t it I’m going around your petrol Did you ever carry fuel tanks on yours or did you yeah I had um 5 L of fuel on one side This is in Australia And is this on this bike or the Oh no sorry 5 lers of fuel of water on the other side for Australia cuz that was the only time I actually needed to um to fill up for How far did you go into the outback there was one day where I had to go I knew I had it was 30 three I knew I could do 300 km on a tank Yeah And I looked at the map and worked it out and I thought be pushing it a bit But with the extra 5 L I knew I could do it Yes And I stoop scary though Well I was laughing my head off because people on proper off-road bikes couldn’t do it cuz their bikes were they couldn’t carry the fuel they needed Yeah So economical weren’t they little old Denfield toodling along up the Streky track I get 105 miles to the gallon on my Meteor 105 I suppose you get the same on yours I think I do Yeah And I thought that can’t be right I thought my maths have gone wrong but I think it is about that Yeah it is 105 Amazing isn’t it yeah it is Yeah Yeah I mean I’ve got this I’ve got another I got the Honda 350 at the moment as well It’s nice Very good bike as well But when I get the the bigger bikes like the liter bikes or the 1200s or whatever my god you don’t have notice it really Yeah Cuz the thing about these is that I think a lot of people uh dismiss them and they’re actually missing out aren’t they you know what I mean i think so Yes And I I’ve said that a lot of my Enfield friends say that that people people who don’t get it You kind of you’re just missing out You got to try it but you need it for like half a day really to get into that Yes And do you think it’s a not a snobby thing do you think it’s um a sort of a macho thing that that men think Yeah Yeah I got a big bike I’m I’m a man Yeah Got have a big bike I think that probably puts a lot of That’s a good thing with my end I’d love for you to come out of the the group that I’m in the WhatsApp group because you get on so well with them Um but a lot of them are export sports bike riders saddle bags He’s a brilliant rider Um we’ve got Mark as well He’s excellent rider as well They all went through the sports bike thing right you know races around like loons and now they’re on 500 classics you know Well if you ever go on any ride outs sort of this way let me know I might to be honest Um but yeah we we’d probably make the effort if we knew you were coming Well I might make the effort to come down to Xmore for a weekend or something of camping and Yeah Yeah Yeah That would be great They’re such a good bunch But don’t plan anything specially but if you do happen to do that let me know Yeah I can always drop you a line anyway and um see how you fix Excellent Um thank you so much for meeting up with me and uh and having a chat I really appreciate it And uh these guys will love this cuz you got a lot of fans on my channel Oh I Yeah Yeah Saddle Bag 73 He’s a big fan and all our little group actually they you know really since the live show that we done that time was good and yeah it was great So thank you very much Oh that’s lovely of you Thank you and lovely to meet you and mustn’t forget your book as well Jackie’s got a book on the road Jack No hit the road Jack Hit the road Jack That’s what I said Um hit the road Jack Uh it’s brilliant 1. Well done ER, 👏 You pulled off a good interview subject there, I expect there's many that would like to have been in your shoes. Devon's answer to Louis Theroux! 👍👌

  2. Hiya Steve, Great interview Thank you, you both made it very interesting for me , I learned alot. Take care and ride safe.

  3. I found out how many miles 1.4 gallons of gasoline lasts on the Trail125 😂. No more questions 134.9 miles, thankfully, i did get to the gas station. I was thinking of running it dry one of these days, but i here its bad for the fuel pump and the electronics… unlike the old carburetors and no electronics. 😊

  4. Hi Steve,

Jacqui was wonderful; articulate, succinct, and without affect. I'm looking forward to reading her book. Your announcement about RE was surprising; the YT videos about the Classic 350 were the primary drivers in my choice to buy one, just 6 months after I bought a different bike. (My wife is very tolerant!) It seems counter-intuitive to cut out the media at this stage. Thank you for the video!

  6. Really enjoyable watch. One of the icons of the motorcycle travel world! Loved the book. This was fabulous.

And all you gave Jaqui was a Costa????

  8. Wow… what a great posting ER. I could listen to Jacqui and her adventures. She comes across as a genuine lovely rider. What a delight. You’ll definitely have to arrange a ride out with your group to include Jacqui… 😊

Just ordered her book. Can’t wait to get stuck into that… 😊

  9. Outstanding interview. Absolutely fascinating.
Jacqui seems to love the new J platform bikes, parallel to her extensive experience with the older singles and is clocking up some serious miles on them.
Really like the new Bullet. Can't justify a 3rd 'J' in the garage 😢

  10. interesting lady …. but I'd have taken her somewhere more fun than Costa Coffee in Bridgewater 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
