Throughout this chapter, the Buddha gently pushes us towards those of us who feel anxious or hesitant.This time, the story is a little long, as there are a series of scenes where the Buddha speaks, but please bear with us until the end.At that time, the Buddha said to the ever-devoting Bodhisattva Satsumasatu: If the good ones, Those who take charge of this Lotus Sutra, read it, recite it , expound it, and write it down to spread it for the benefit of future generations , will gain all six roots of merit.Eighty hundred merits dwell in their eyes, twelve hundred merits resound in their ears, and their noses reverberate. 800 merits will smell, 1200 merits will spread on the tongue, 800 merits will fill the body, 1,200 merits will spring up in the heart. At that time, Shakyamuni, the Bodhisattva of Eternal Devotion, conveyed this message to the Bodhisattva Satsumasa.At that time, in order to convey this meaning even more deeply, the Buddha said in a verse: “ Suppose there is someone who preaches the teachings of the Lotus Sutra in front of the masses with a fearless heart , and I will reveal his merits here and now.That person is full of eight hundred merits.” The eyes that will be endowed with truly precious eyes will be solemnized by the wisdom of the Buddha, and will be pure and clear without any clouding. With these eyes that were given to you by your parents, you will be able to see through the vast 3,000 worlds , including Mt. Mirō, Mt. It illuminates everything inside and out, and overlooks all mountains and forests, oceans and rivers.From the bottom to the depths of hell, to the world of Ahana, to the top of the heavens, and even to the ecstasy , its eyes will be able to see everything.It will be able to see and know everything about all sentient beings there , down to the fate of their birth and the fruits of their karma . This is how much power you can obtain , constant diligence. Let me further convey this message to you , if good people believe in this Lotus Sutra , read it, chant it aloud, and preach it to others. And if he writes and spreads, he will have ears full of twelve hundred merits, with which he can hear all the voices of the three thousand worlds, from the lowest to the highest; and with those ears he will discern all the voices that fill the world : the words of men, the sound of music, the voices of elephants, the neighing of horses, the mooing of cattle, the sound of carts, the sound of wailing, crying, the sigh of sorrow, The sound of shells, the sound of drums, the sound of bells and bells , the sounds of laughter, the voices of men, the voices of women, the voices of children , the voices of the teachings of the law, evil words , the voices of suffering, the voices of joy, the voices of ordinary people, the voices of saints, The voices of joy, the voices of sorrow , the voices of the heavens, the voices of dragons, the voices of the Yashas, ​​the voices of the Insanity Baba, the voices of Asura, Karura, Kinnara, and Makuragya , as well as the sounds of fire, the flow of water, the swell of the wind, the groans of hell, the voices of animals, and the cries of hungry demons; The preaching of the voice-hearer, the sound of enlightenment, the merciful voice of the Bodhisattva, and even the voice of the Buddha itself.In short, you will be able to discern every single one of the inner voices and outer sounds that fill these three thousand great worlds.Even if you have not yet acquired the supernatural power of the heavenly ear, you will be able to hear all those sounds correctly with just the pure, ordinary ears that you received from your parents . It is possible to hear and know everything , and the ear never gets tired or damaged even though it distinguishes the countless sounds.This is the merit of the ear for those who believe in and practice the Lotus Sutra.At that time, Shakyamuni Buddha, in order to further convey this meaning, said in a verse: This person’s ears were already pure when he was born from his mother’s womb , With his ears as they are without any turbidity or impurity , he would be able to distinguish all the voices and sounds that reverberate throughout the three thousand great worlds , and he would be able to clearly discern all the voices and sounds that echoed in the three thousand great worlds , the sound of elephants, horses, carts, and cows , the ringing of bells , the roar of conch shells and drums, the sounds of flutes and strings , and even the beautiful voices of singing that cleansed the soul . Even the sounds of birds and beasts living in all the worlds in the ten directions calling to each other and chirping to each other reach the ears of those who attend the sermon vividly . The words and echoes of the beings who live there are all clearly audible to this Dharma master’s ears. He is able to hear and understand every voice, even to the ends of the universe , even though he is quietly located here. When all the monks are reciting the scriptures and preaching for others , the Dharma preacher is able to hear all the voices, even though he is quietly located there . When bodhisattvas who practice a lot of ascetic practices recite the Buddha’s Dharma, or preach it for others , or summarize the meaning of the teachings themselves, and deeply interpret them, all their sounds and voices reach the hearts of those who preach the Dharma . When He appears to save sentient beings and expounds the profound and subtle words of truth in a great puja , if there is someone who possesses this Lotus Sutra, believes in it, and preaches it , he will hear the echoes of all the laws clearly and completely . You can hear its sounds from the lowest reaches of Abi hell to the highest heavens of ecstasy. This is because your ears will never break down . Your ears are sharp and pure, and have the power to completely distinguish and understand all sounds. If you have this Lotus Sutra, believe in it, and practice it, even if you have not yet acquired the power of the heavenly ears, by simply using your natural ears , you will already be able to hear it. You will be able to smell and know all the scents of Sumanna, Dharma, Tamara, sandalwood, sunken water, citrus, these scents, as well as the scent of various flowers and fruits, even the scent of sentient beings, and even the scent of men and women.Even if the person who preaches the Dharma lives far away, the one who holds this Dharma will hear the incense emanating from that person and wonder where he is. The many wheel-turning kings, small wheel-turning kings, their children, courtiers, and courtiers, all of whom will be able to know their whereabouts just by listening to their scent.The rare treasures they wear , the treasure troves buried underground, and the wheel-turning king’s precious women, all they have to do is listen to their scent. A sutra practitioner can put himself in that place and know the whereabouts of everything . Sentient beings living underground, practitioners of sutras, hear the scent, You will be able to know their location wherever you are. When the Asuras, men and women, and their attendants are fighting and playing, everyone will be able to know their location just by listening to their fragrance. Also , lions, elephants, tigers, wolves, wild buffaloes, and water buffaloes that live in vast plains and rugged places will be able to know their location just by listening to their fragrance. Furthermore, if there is a pregnant woman and you are not yet able to distinguish between her gender, rootlessness, or non-humanity, you will be able to know everything about her just by listening to her fragrance. One who becomes pregnant and attains enlightenment through the power of hearing fragrance will be able to attain enlightenment. Also, by the ability to hear fragrances, one can know the thoughts of men and women, their desires, foolishness, and anger . And even those who practice goodness can know these thoughts. Just by listening to the fragrance, one can know the location of all the living beings buried underground , the places where gold, silver, various precious stones, and copper utensils are piled up. Even those who cannot fully appreciate the value of various precious ornaments can tell their nobility, origin, and location by listening to the fragrance. Also, flowers blooming in the heavens, mandalas and manjushas, Just by listening to the fragrance of the Paritsutaka tree, one can know the location of all the palaces in the heavens, the difference between high, middle and low, and the splendor of the jeweled flowers that sentient beings adorn them . Just by listening to the fragrance , one can know the location of those who are enjoying themselves in the Heavenly Garden, the Linsheng Hall (the most sublime hall) , the various Contemplation Halls (hall for sacred and high spiritual training) , and the Myoho-do Hall (the hall where the Lotus Sutra is transmitted) just by listening to the fragrance . When the heavenly beings listen to the Dharma, or are filled with the five desires, even when they go back and forth, walk, sit or sleep, one can know everything just by listening to the fragrance. When the robes of the heavenly maidens are adorned with their favorite flowers and fragrances and they dance around playing, one can know everything just by listening to the fragrance. In this way, the fragrance unfolds and eventually reaches Brahma . Those who enter or exit Zen can also know everything by listening to the fragrance . And those who have reached the pinnacle, even at the moment of their first birth or retirement, are able to know everything just by hearing the fragrance.Among the various monks, there are those who work hard every day in the practice of the Dharma.Some sit quietly and enter deep meditation, some tune their body and mind through the practice of the sutras, some carefully read the words of the sutras and recite them aloud, and some immerse themselves in zazen wholeheartedly in the shade of the trees in a forest.Such sutra holders are able to know exactly where they are just by hearing the fragrance.When bodhisattvas are firm in their resolve and practice zazen or recite sutras or give sermons for others, they can know everything just by hearing the fragrance.Wherever they are, the World-Honored One (Buddha, an honorific title for those who spread the teachings of Buddhism) has a heart of reverence towards all beings, has compassion for all living beings, The Dharma is preached with a heart of compassion. Hearing the fragrance, one can know all things through it. There are those who gather before the Buddha, rejoice when they hear the sutra, and practice according to the Dharma. These people can hear the fragrance and know its existence. Even if a bodhisattva has not obtained the nose of a bodhisattva who is born without defilement of the Dharma (a pure state in which worldly desires have been cut off) , this sutra holder can first obtain the appearance of that nose . The Buddha then said , “O ye who are always diligent, and good ones, if there is anyone who takes up the Lotus Sutra, reads, recites, interprets, writes down, and spreads it, he will gain the merit of a thousand, two hundred tongues. Whatever touches this tongue, no matter how bitter, astringent, or unpleasant it may be, will be transformed into nectar . When the Dharma is preached with this tongue, the voice is deep and penetrates the heart, and all people are enveloped in joy and peace. Furthermore, the heavenly sons and daughters, Shaka, Brahma, and other gods who dwell in the heavens also flow from this Lotus Sutra. Bhikkhu, bhikkhunis, upasaka, and upasikas, kings, princes, vassals, and even their families, along with their entire palaces, come to listen to the Dharma. The Dharma preached by this Bodhisattva will continue to be preached by people until their very lives end. He will be surrounded by offerings and respect. The shravakas, pratyekabuddhas, and other Buddhas will also adore him and wish to always listen to his sermons. To wherever he is, the Buddhas will turn their faces and preach the Dharma. The Buddha said that he will take charge of all Buddhist teachings and let the profound sound of the Dharma resonate throughout the world . At that time, the Buddha further elaborated in a verse to convey this meaning even more deeply: Such a person will attain even greater merit . His tongue will be completely pure and untainted, without any bitter or unpleasant taste. Everything he sips will become as precious as nectar. His voice will be deep, clear, and beautiful, and he will expound on the teachings of the Dharma in front of many people. He will skillfully use causes and parables to gently guide the minds of those who are lost. Those who listen to his teachings will be truly happy and will make the finest offerings to him. The heavenly beings, dragons, and yakshas will all Even the asuras will gather with reverent hearts to listen to this teaching. If this person wishes, his pure voice will resonate throughout the three thousand great thousand worlds, and can reach even the people of faraway places as he wishes. The great wheel-turning saints, along with a thousand princes, will join their hands in prayer and reverently listen to this teaching. The heavenly beings, the dragons, the yakshas, ​​the rakshasas, and even the vassals will offer offerings with joyful hearts . In other words, by the deep power of the mind, one can discern the differences between all the dharma, upper, middle, and lower. Even if one hears only one verse, one will deeply realize and clearly understand the meaning of the infinite dharma contained therein.Also , when speaking, one will always follow the lawful order, and will continue to preach the correct teachings, sometimes for four months or even a year . Those who hold the Lotus Sutra can immediately, in the blink of an eye, know all of the thousands of thoughts, wishes, and worries that the countless beings that live in the confusion of the Six Paths, including everything outside, all sentient beings, those living in the heavens, dragons, humans, Yashas, ​​and demons live in the confusion of the Six Paths. Those who hold the Lotus Sutra, who have accumulated a hundred blessings and have accumulated a hundred blessings and are generously preaching the Dharma for the benefit of all sentient beings, will listen to all of its teachings, understand it well, and hold it firmly in their hearts.They will also meditate deeply on its infinite meaning, and will never run out of words to say, never forgetting their ever -spreading sermons from beginning to end .
