Self-belief seems to be the foundation of hero's power. For Firm Man's case, his self-belief is based on the girl he save. It was her who gave him "the faith and courage to persevere". He believes it is his job to keep her safe, but now the girl is hurt seeing him suffering from acting a hero. Therefore, in order to fulfill his beliefs, his power gives up. For Lin Ling's case, Nice's self-belief is to "protect those who are worth protecting" and believe "even a nobody has the possibility to become a hero". After he affirms his belief, that's when he was able to use Nice full power to defeat his old boss. So the more your actions align with your beliefs, the more power you can manifest. If your power contradict your beliefs, like in FirmMan case, it will disappear.
