Paolo Cassius, the original captain of the White Base, dies in both Mobile Suit Gundam (1979) & GQuuuuuuX (2025) but in different circumstances. In the original, he dies in EP4 due to his shrapnel wounds while he is killed by Char Aznable in EP2 of GQuuuuuuX.

ふと思ったけど、艦橋撃たれて艦橋ごと爆散した人はいっぱいいるけど、(オリジンのルウム戦役の描写等)直接艦橋内にサーベルぶち込まれてまとめて蒸発した人って中々居ないよな
1人や2人単位でジュッされた人は居るけど
なお三部作の方ではギリ生存し、ルナツーで降ろされる事になる

ところで軍艦を分捕ると言えば、幕末の箱館戦争で榎本武揚という旧徳川幕府の軍人が新政府軍艦隊の新型装甲艦を鹵獲するという作戦を敢行したが無残な失敗に終わった宮古湾海戦という戦いがあった。
後に榎本武揚は降伏して新政府の官僚を務めたがその頃かつての味方から「恥を知らない奴」
と非難されて
「あの頃は私も若かったからな」
とシャアの名セリフのような言葉で返したそうだ。

パオロはV作戦をどれぐらい把握していたんだろう？
ファーストはブライト達に艦を託して慕われたまま逝ったけど、全部知ってたら、囮としてはブライト達にタヒんでくれって言ってる場面なんだよな。そう考えるとGクワクスでのシーンはある意味妥当だと感じてしまう。

I'd say Paolo had the best possible end in the Mirror Universe. That said, I hope Bright is okay. The overworked millennial middle manager of the space wars deserves a fair shake.

This was my second favorite officers-death-by-Mobile Suit scene I've ever seen. The first was from the first season of Gundam Thunderbolt where ESDF straight up murdered a group of Zeon officers with a beam saber from outside the spaceship.
