Leatherhead: Becoming a Villain – TMNT 1987

Leatherhead wasn’t always a villain—but in the 1987 TMNT cartoon, he chose to be. In this video, I explore how the Fred Wolf version turned intelligence and conscience into weapons, becoming one of the show’s most dangerous enemies.

  1. Dont forget Lewtherheads other famous saying, "Oooh, im bout to make a name for myself here!"

  2. I like that he has a particular accent (which for obvious reasons in Italy, my country, they didn't manage to give him. In our country instead of saying Guaranteed he would say "Garantito al limone (lemon guaranteed)" which made no sense) but I still prefer the good Leatherheads, especially the 2003 one.
Not to mention the fight with Rat King, too stupid, the alligator is defeated with embarrassing ease (which is also the same criticism they can give to the 2012 series, where Shredder should have been cut in two as soon as he ends up in the reptile's mouth).

  3. I do like this version of leather head. Friend or foe, It's always interesting when he shows up, also since crocodiles and alligators are natural predators of turtles.

  4. Leatherhead I think was a great villain in classic TMNT and I used to find him intimidating as a kid probably cuz he’s an Mutant Alligator and I often confuse both Alligators and Crocodiles cuz I can’t tell the difference between them but all and all another great video on classic TMNT and hope to see more in the future.

  5. I hate how they made Leatherhead look, sound and be like in that new whack turtles mutant mayhem

  6. Just discovered this channel and I’m absolutely hooked! I had all the action figures as a kid (seriously, my bedroom looked like the Technodrome exploded), and your videos take me right back. Keep up the amazing work, dude!

  7. I watched one of your videos about a week ago but I didn't know you had a whole channel dedicated to the critters

  8. Leatherhead is 1 of my favorite TMNT characters outside of the actual TMNT and besides Casey Jones. Leatherhead is awesome in the original Mirage comic books, the Archie Adventures comic book and the cartoon. the Leatherhead action figure by Playmates is 1 of my favorites in the whole Playmates series too. Leatherhead was just so cool during the 80s & 90s. I always felt he was a perfect ally or villain for the TMNT

  9. Leatherhead is one of my favorite tmnt characters and this version has always been my favorite iteration

  10. You know, he almost became a Hero in the Cartoon series. Had the Mighty Mutanimals taken off, he was going to have his Good and Evil sides split by the Voodoo Priestess Mary Bones and we would've had a purple, red-eyed version of he aligator mutant named, "Netherhead".

  11. If playmates and Varner studios did anything wrong, it was the scale of all the action figures.
Leatherhead was listed at 8 foot tall. Edit, although I love
that he comes with a pump action shotgun as his weapon. Not a swamp blaster or alligator tooth shooter. Nope. Shotgun.
