The Real Plague Knights of History (c. 1187) DOCUMENTARY
Documentary on the Leper Knights of St. Lazarus. Play Warhammer 40,000: Tacticus https://play.tacticusgame.com/invicta-0325 and use code “InvictaDante” for 2,000 Gold and 20 Energy.
In this documentary we explore the mysterious origins of the historical plague knights. These had emerged in the early years of the Crusades as a monastic order which sought to treat those afflicted by Leprosy. Over the years they would see their institution grow. Yet even still they did not militarize alongside their fellow orders such as the Knights Hospitaller and the Knights Templar. It was only in 1187, on the cusp of the Third Crusade that these men took up arms. From this point on we cover their equipment, organization, and service history.

This has to be in Trench Crusade someday
beautifull.
sound like diseased Dwayf Slayers from Warhammer Fantasy
fear the warrior with nothing to lose
Ok now the Dev team for MK 1212ad mod for Atilla Total War HAS to make this a recruitable unit for the Crusading kingdoms like Jerusalem and Antioch 🤯
THIS MAN UNDERSTANDS THAT ADVERSITY AND EXISTENCE ARE ONE AND THE SAME.
Knights of saint Lazarus! Damn I want to join that order
Absolutely fantastic Video ! Thank you for it !
I'm going to conquer this video! And watch its body of content while its hanging from the high walls of my fort, my home!
They sound like a precursor to drs without borders
Great Video! I had no idea an order like this actually existed. It sounds like something straight out of a fantasy book.
It would be interesting to see a series on each known permanent military formation (lasts more than one generation, perhaps?). You've already done the Persian Immortals, IIRC, and might have covered one or more legions, but doing a systematic series has some potential.
Medival red cross except crosses are green not red
Fascinating!
This would make a great theme for the next Kingdom Come Deliverance game.
So bizarre it doesn't seem real… but i.agine how terrifying it would be tofight them!
Aaah, YES! The Lazarine knights! Y'know, based on your title, I thought you meant Nurgle's Death Guard in the Warhammer 40K universe!
HISTORY IS HERESY!!! >:(
This pleases the grandfather greatly
Actual Leper Knights from an order known as House of St.Lazarus?….Go on…
Great video !! I've read a lot of mid evil history , but I've never heard of this order . I guess that the Templers and Hospitalers get all the attention . Fun fact , Richard the Lionheart is my 26th time's Uncle. I'm a direct decendant of his Brother Johy.
Did it really say "Mongol Empire" on the map? O.o
Mortarion: " I betrayed my father, turned my back on the Imperium, turned traitor to my species and "have became a slave to the god of disease, because I got a little sniffle and felt rejected – woe is me"
Knight of St. Lazarus: "Pathetic.
Truly, the truth is stranger than fiction and yet it is more horrifying. For it really happened.
Great work. No suggestions, I'm sure you will still get some interesting ones.
I’m curious as to what their adversaries thought of them, obviously their own casualties were horrendous but do we have much info on how much damage they did to their opponents, or the psychological effect of their charges? Great video, I’d love to know more
This absolutely stunning thank You so very much!!!! 💚💚
Yet another wonderful presentation on a little known medieval military subject. After studying ancient and medieval warfare constantly for over 50 years INVICTA has become my go-to source for such in depth histories. Thank you so much for the hard work.
Sabaton -Attack of the dead men intensifies
Too many warhammer mentions, not enough darkest dungeon mentions 🙁
when mental illness is celebrated
Grandfather nurgle approved
The Virgin space sci-fi with edglords crying about betraying those they love and giving them plagues all for personal gain.
vs
The CHAD real life plague knights who fought for a Holy God and gave their lives for those loved and even for those who hated them despite having an absolutely horrid illness.
I wonder if GW took their Slayer inspiration from them?
