Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon SuperS: Shin Shuyaku Soudatsusen is a fighting game, under the subtitle Various Emotion it was also released for SEGA Saturn. The emulation is little buggy but it had no problem on the console back then for me.

This game is a little different from the other two fighting games as there are no combos and attacks can not be chained. It is more about timing, countering movement, and knowing the abilities’ work inside out. The AI is very easy to beat, though the game can be deeper against other players. I can say it is pretty balanced but there is two things to watch out. First, Sailor Mars’ Burning Mandala is a multi projectile ranged attack and a single ring can destroy a single other projectile (and all other character can fire only a single projectile at a time), making the attack unstoppable by other non low healt special ranged attacks. The second is Pluto’s Dead Scream. The special thing with that attack is the continuous melee hit during the start up animation which is unlike other heavy melee attacks don’t knock the opponent down. It can deal very high damage when performed point blank.

By completing the game, after the ending credits the game’s menu will change. The character you finished the story mode with will replace Sailor Moon’s silhouette, and the menu’s text color will match that character’s color scheme. It will remain like that till you reset the game or beat story mode again with a different character.

Honestly I know how bad this game’s reputation was amongst the anime’s fans but I enjoyed it with friends. 🙂
