I myself loathed him the first time I knew of him (Deen's FSN adaptation)
butthe longer I have been in the fate community the more he started to grow on me
what I like about him is that he's consistent
he's an a$$hole as a villan (Fate Stay Night/Zero) and he's an asshole as a main character (Babylonia/Strange Fake)
unlike some other villains who are incredible evil in the beginning and them suddenly gets a redemption arc and a tragic flashback in the end.

Gilgamesh might be act cocky and arrogant but he should be. He a king. He’s a king of heroes. He deserves all the cockiness and he’s one of the best king ever. If a royalty system exists and king still rule the world I want him as my king

I used to hate Gilgamesh, but "Fate/Grand Order Absolute Demonic Front :Babylonia" changed my perspective entirely. I like Gilgamesh!
I don't like Gil either. He's basically just a shallow Vegeta with zero depth to his character. One of the biggest cringe of the Fate series.

I recommend playing the Gilgamesh route of Fate/Extra CCC before passing judgement on Gil's character. CCC was basically the first Fate media in which Gilgamesh was in a major non-antagonistic role and it pretty much steered his character in a new direction. Heck, Caster Gil's character in Babylonia was literally based off of Archer Gil's character development in CCC
