I had fun doing digital art again. This time it was for the manga and anime series “Horimiya” (ホリミヤ) by HERO and Daisuke Hagiwara. If you reside in certain parts of the world including the US, it’s possible to watch the first few episodes for free on Crunchyroll. They also have an English-language audio dub which is really incredibly well done and a great option too!

The painting software that I used is Clip Studio Paint. The flowers and tangerines were purchased at Trader Joe’s 🤣. I use a drawing display tablet that doubles as my regular computer screen.

Horimiya is so satisfying to watch and read because we get to see Miyamura Izumi live his best life and show his real personality that was buried underneath years of trauma. But it’s a bit scary to think that this left turn in his life was all due to a chance encounter between a little kid and a dog! Frightening and sad, really. It’s amazing how a show where nothing “big” happens (no earth-shattering goals, no action and adventure, not even much of an antagonist or a plot!) could be so engaging. I don’t normally watch romance stories, and I wasn’t expecting much based on the summary (popular smart girl meets weirdo boy). But I really was shocked at how engaging the writing was and many anime stereotypes that it overturned.
