Rebel Moon Part One is a very difficult thing to review fairly because it’s a heavily edited two hour version of a three hour movie that is the first part of a two part movie, nevertheless I have some complicated thoughts about this I’d like to share with you all. Imma be real. Rebel Moon was just A New Hope again but boring, bland, and with less color. I unfortunately need to give the win to The Force Awakens when it comes to carbon copies.
I stopped watching the second the girl power garbage started…
I didn't pay extra for it, I went into it with an open mind, I didn't get to 30 minuits watching it and turned it off, never to watch the rest. Its awful and a time stealer.
I enjoyed it myself, but not woke?! It's obviously not the wokest movie ever, but I'd say it's at least medium level in the wokeness scale. Kora is still the "stunning and brave" strong independent woman. She has military training, yes, but so do the soldiers twice her size that she beats up. In her introduction, we see her doing hard work while white guy watches. All white men are either incompetent at fighting or evil/treacherous. And there is more here and there, in the details. Sorry, but comparing it to "The Expanse" is ludicrous.

Zack Snyder films really need room to breathe in order to work. The Ultimate Edition of BvS had some very critical subplot holes plugged and extra character moments in that particular cut elevated it from a meh film to a good one in my estimation.

The reason “The Snyder Cut” worked for Justice League was because Snyder was not the director of the released version.

On whole I thought rebel moon was better than average, which considering the state of sci-fi, that’s a big step up. My only complaint is I was looking forward to something more original then a magnificant 7 remake.
