The United States Army Field Band performs the famous Civil War-era piece, “The Battle Hymn of the Republic.”

Lyrics: Julia Ward Howe
Music: William Steffe
Setting: Peter J. Wilhousky
Arrangement: James Neilson
Conductor: 1st Lt. Alexandra Borza

Lyrics
Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord;
He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored;
He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword;
His truth is marching on.

Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
His truth is marching on.

I have seen Him in the watch-fires of a hundred circling camps;
They have builded Him an altar in the evening dews and damps;
I can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps,
His day is marching on.

In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea,
With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me;
As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free!
While God is marching on.

  2. The US Army Field Band did such a great job. Great credit to their director. I love this song, it's transcendent & put's forth the glory of God.

  3. "Let us die to make men free."
    Now that we have been informed that the slaves freed themselves, without help from our forefathers (one and a half million casualties), it's clear that Civil War I was a cataclysmic mistake.
    However, many of us are still moved to tears by this song that inspired the millions of white people fighting and dying to "make men free".

  4. The conductor was an officer, but I did not see any officers in either orchestra or the chorale. Is this a rule of some sort?
