I'd say their biggest blunder was Jolyne and Ermes pulling out their stands too early. This is what allowed Pucci to use Stone Free as a dummy, thereby putting Jotaro in the position he was in. I think that if they withheld drawing out their stands, they could have won.

世界が一巡するって、また一部二部三部四部五部を、顔は違うけどまた同じ事が繰り返してるって考えで合ってる？

To be fair, Pucci has gone through a whole ordeal of ritural to obtain Made In Heaven rather than just getting stabbed by the arrow. So Made In Heaven's ability should be overwhelming.
