Hinako is a surf-loving college student who has just moved to a small seaside town. When a sudden fire breaks out at her apartment building, she is rescued by Minato, a handsome firefighter, and the two soon fall in love. Just as they become inseparable, Minato loses his life in an accident at sea. Hinako is so distraught that she can no longer even look at the ocean, but one day she sings a song that reminds her of their time together, and Minato appears in the water. From then on, she can summon him in any watery surface as soon as she sings their song, but can the two really remain together forever? And what is the real reason for Minato’s sudden reappearance?

    I get that it's a sad movie. Maybe there just wasn't enough movie time to build up the romance. But unpopular opinion, this anime wasn't even that sad.
    Spoilers ahead!

    In real life, there are so many people that had lost their significant other too, so this one incident wasn't as transformative as I thought it would be. It's about overcoming grief and how to live on once someone you love dies. The whole time when she was wondering about with the blow-up doll and water bottle, I already knew she was in denial hard. Maybe I came into this movie, knowing that this was going to be a tragic anime but it definitely didn't hit me like the others.
    I guess the only scene where I kind of got emotional was when they played Minato's Christmas message over the tower. "Let's spend Christmas together forever and ever and ever".

    Ok I know this is probably a movie sin but after crying a ton at 20 min I kinda paused and walked away at 50 SPOILER ALERT

    Y’all watching her with that porpoise is making me too sad and cringe, should I keep going? Is the ending worth it? I hate watching people be in denial and those around them suffer

    Yes I should’ve known that would happen from the trailer but for some reason I thought he’d be more ghostlike? I didn’t think other people would think she’s crazy

    Edit: i forced myself to watch again and I’m once again bawling THAT TWIST

    Looking back on how I originally saved this movie to watch on a plane I’m so glad I didn’t I would’ve looked like a crazy person with all my crying

    The messed when he already died saying those „I love you and want to be with you every Christmas“ so sad she cried and „Puff“ end of movie. !!!
