They don't see the heroes as people, they see them as machines, perfect warriors that only have to fight and defend them. Even the kids like Deku. Thats why what Ochako did was so important. She really made them open their eyes to the reality, after that they saw Deku not as a hero but as the hurt and scared kid he was.
