9S is conflicted because he refuses to believe they're literally the same, it's easier when you think they're just emotionless automatons that just follows orders, and think you're doing the right, in the previous episode he stated that even if they are capable of reasoning, he would still murder them all. Because he wants Earth for humans alone, he sees coexisting with them as a defeat
Emil appeared! Precious boy hopefully has good time in show, more than at end of Nier Replicant and on Automata game.
Emil is skull shaped one stuck on tree and scenes you saw were from his past, his most treasured memories of scenery and his friends: Kaine (woman wearing lingerie), Grimoire Weiss (floating book), Nier(facing way from camera) and his little sister Yonah(on bed).
I think music you heard on flashback can be found by searching on Youtube with "nier replicant emil karma sacrifice"
For your information that mysterious head is emil. For me who know the game the flashback is 10 tons punch in the guts. Like moment when emil's sacrifice song kick in i instantly tear up.
Those people in the flashback are pretty much characters of the other nier game called replicant. Canonically, their story is before automata.
Such a nice village you have there. It'd be a shame if something happened to it.
For the comment you made at the beginning of the video, in my opinion I wouldn't say that 9S became is a bit more edgier then his game version, it's just that this darker side of his personality towards the machines is more noticeable in the anime
