Twelve-year-old Ophelia (Ivana Buckalew) has a violent fascist officer stepfather, Vidal (Serge Lopez), whose mission is to suppress the rebels and study various torture devices to torture and maim the captured dissidents, and Ophelia witnesses unpleasant events every day. As she watches her ruthless stepfather and his henchmen committing their daily acts of evil for fun, and her mother is sick in bed, Ophelia, plagued by loneliness and the pain of witnessing atrocities, begins to indulge in her own fantasies to comfort herself.
One day, Ophelia meets the guardian of the labyrinth, the god Pan (Doug Jones). Pan Shen tells her that she is actually the missing princess of the fantasy kingdom, and that she must pass three dangerous tests in order to recover her identity.
