Great episode, Kamuy once again showing that perfect balance of comedy and drama in it's episodes and now I feel like we're getting back on track in terms of the main story. I actually looked up whether those stories of the dick jokes were real and the names of the characters and their stories did exist but never found out whether it was just stories about their dicks, though I'm sure Satoru Noda and his Ainu guider know far more than us regarding the validity. The moment where Asirpa saw her mum and dad in that film, seeing her mum for the first time, hit me hard knowing there's none of that left for her amongst all this politics and backstabbing.
I also noticed they had a shot during the film making that showed Sugimoto's bandages on his head despite him wearing a hat, that mixed with how aggressive he was to that cinema guy and the moment at the end of the episode. I feel like Asirpa gonna see Sugimoto lose his cool by this season end, maybe cause a divide between the two which maybe Tsurumi is gonna capatilise on, like you said regarding his manipulation tactics it feels like the only way to break Asirpa's likely resistance to Tsurumi is for her relationship with Sugimoto to be fractured. When that happens means endgame really begins as Tsurumi is defo main antagonist at this point.
i LOVE how this arc brings some drama in between asirpa and sugimoto – asirpa has learned so much after being apart from sugimoto, she's become her own person now and developed so much!

If it wasn't for his family circumstances, he would be still be like Asirpa and eating his favourite dried persimmon in his hometown. His motive changed after meeting Asirpa(his former self). Great episode
Good episode first half felt like a gintama episode, the way they transitioned from the comedic part to put in her mom was good too. I feel like ur right Tsurumi going to use his manipulative tactics to slide between Asirpa and Sugimoto.

Here's a brief explanation of the Tsurumi Theatre, the man behind the scenes of the Empire of Japan, early on, is Lieutenant Tsurumi.
Brief explanation.
