Comparing the first episodes of the original and new adaptations of Trigun. I had some mixed feelings on the subject and in this video, I’ll tell you why.
To all of the people who are gonna comment about the rock thing, hear me out. First, I'd like to debunk the incorrect explanations I have received. The explanation is not that at first he thought he had multiple bullets and changed his plan once he knew he had only one. That is not the case because the second time he went to shoot the missiles in the sky, he knew he had one bullet and didn't grab the rock. To people saying that he was intentionally baiting the other gunman by pretending to take aim at the missiles during that moment, there is literally no positive evidence that suggests that. For the people who gave me the explanation that makes the most sense, which is he changed his plan based on the proximity of the missiles to the town, this is still a failing of the show because the show failed at conveying that to the audience properly. And no, this is not an example of visual storytelling. There's a difference between subtle visual storytelling and something that's not there. He changed his plan at the last second, but in a way that wasn't telegraphed that well to the audience. There are so many people telling me that he changed his plan because the missiles are closer by the time he grabs that rock, but not that much time had even passed between the moment where Vash rose his gun the second time and was interrupted by the other gunman and the moment he ran to get the rock. The missiles shouldn't be that much closer than when he was just gonna shoot normally. And if you want to talk about visual storytelling then look at the missiles in the sky. They do not look like they're that close to the town so what's the problem with him just doing what he was going to do from the beginning? They tried to convey him changing his plan in the middle of that incredibly fast action scene with all of those dynamic camera angles in order to make that scene look like a spectacle and to their credit they did a fantastic job of that, but in the process, they were unable to convey what Vash was thinking properly. I don't need Vash to have an inner monologue about it, but there are a number of ways to show that visually. Maybe have him react in a different way to the situation at the end as opposed to the beginning or when he was going to shoot the second time, have him grab the rock first and then have the gunman shoot the rock. If they had done that, there would be a justification for him to grab that rock even if you would have to rewatch to make sure. As the scene is now, the audience can only speculate and not confirm why Vash did what he did.
I think i could be that outsider point of view. Everything you've mentioned is very accurate. I do like this new visual better but the plot just don't click, but i can still enjoy it. I can say the visual save it all, rly. Gonna jump into the manga because it's been long since I've been excited about any
I really like the animation in the series. It makes it feel like a movie more than a series to me for some reason. Enjoying it so far, just made it to episode 5
My opinion is that 3D remakes of original Anime is a trash cash grab. Some much information, action and emotion is lost with this cheap 3D animation.
I say cheap because they actually look on the level of modern 3D Toddler Shows. The facial expressions are flat which results with miscommunication of emotions. This problem was long solved in 3D animation by the Veggietales with simple eye expressions and camera positioning.
I hear and agree with a lot of what you said, I'm just hoping that they don't stick the typical tropes with characters like Meryl and did this in the beginning so that her character can evolve.. I guess we'll find out. It's really hard to take such an epic anime line Trigun and live up to it, so they have a really difficult task on their hands. I'm really torn about how Vash looks too, it's just really jarring for some reason. I don't really know how to explain it, he doesn't look wrong or different than I thought he should, I'm just used to the lanky, awkwardly shaped version that stands out in my mind from the original opening credits so it'll take getting used to. I have high hopes though.
after the last tristamp episode last night and reading all the comments here again, dare i say my respect for studio orange literally skyrocketed. their choice of how to tell their story in another light was risky knowing so many people grew up and loved trigun so much, all the choices they made for tristamp made so much sense after ep12, i personally thought the '23 trigun was all over the place compared to the '98 one but in narratively, its starting to be more cohesive. while all the comments here are valid, yall really just needed to wait for tristamp to finish airing bc tristamp vash on ep12 just made a fool of us
I have a guess about the rock thing. The cluster bombs get farther away from each other as they descend, so enough time had passed at that point, that he felt they were no longer close enough to each other for just the bullet to handle the situation. So he used to rock to cause a ricochet. I agree, this could've been visually conveyed better, but personally, when I initially watched the scene, that's the first thing I thought when he grabbed the rock.
Super disappointing. All I got from the first episode is that they don't know how to "show don't tell". The characters also all seem to be flanderized to hell.
It's kind of weird how Vash in the New anime uses .22 A small pistol bullet, but the Old Vash uses .45 Long Colt. Also I really don't like his design, Like this robot arm for instance. In the Old Anime, Vash's arm looks so well hidden, you could mistaken it as just his fashion sense. In the new anime, its like "Yup! Thats a robot arm!". Like the Robot arm is basically his trump card, no one would expect it in a fight, especially when you disarmed him. Thats why is every parts of the old anime, he never uses it because everything is in his favor, but only uses it during the most drastic situations.
Small detail but in the original his gun was based off the Mateba Unica Model six which doesn't use .22 cal bullets and here he's asking for .22 bullets. Can anyone confirm which is more accurate to the manga?
The orignal Vash's design look and feels like someone who's been through some tough sh"t. The new Vash's design looks like a freshly graduated student with debts of student loans.
Dont know if you stuck with the show or not but this is a prequel to the OG Trigun series in a way (at Least S1 is). This is Vash before the Julai incident and his amnesia which all happened before Trigun.
not all shows can afford to do Arcane level CG but dang… I wish they did. I just cannot get myself to like this slippery, textureless toy-looking style of 3d animation. Credit where its worth, they made it work for a lot of people and that's a feat.
Agreed. After watching all the episode of Trigon Stempede, I can say it's just pretty on the outside. It's lost something value from the original story, the depth of the story felt not right. The most make me dissapointed is Vash character + cloth and the fighting scenes look just for 'decoration' purpose and lost its element 😢
Chill dick wads. Milly will appear in season 2. Geez you morons judged a book by its first 4 episodes too quick. Its better than 1998 trigun and I grew up with that version on Cartoon Network.
This new one is my jam. The last episode 12 alone actually made me feel bad for knives.

I'm always a stickler for originals.
This new Trigun anime is pretty lame. The sound design isn't as sharp either. It just doesn't feel like a western anymore.

although the Bomb scene was puzzling, later on Vash did sya he didn't really know if it was gonna work so that about explains it ig

all I think of the "rock" is coz he didn't know the gun was empite, so I think he was thinking that gun was full
Why da hell does Vash have a severed arm now? What is dis One Piece now?🤦🏿♂️
Yea…..ima just stick to the original and like alot of things. Pretend this doesn't exist
LOOK WHAT THEY DID TO MY BOY VASH!! HE LOOK LIKE THAT BLONDE BITCH FROM GHOSTBUSTERS 2016 JILLIAN HOLTZMANN NOOOOOO!! ( in woke screaming meme chick )
Agree 100%

OG always…ALWAYS better why? Cuz it requires talent and not just point a mouse click and repeat trash.
Comments bashing the show look stupid now considering what happened now lmao.

I prefer the old Trigun, it's way better. Now days anything remake is shit. At least in movies and anime not on video games I guess.
lol 2:07 (;

Downgraded his revolver from a 45 long colt to a 22?
Stampede is such a good readaptation!
