A Harplist harp cover of the ending theme from the original Japanese anime series ID: Invaded, Other Side by MIYAVI.

ID: Invaded was a pleasant surprise when I watched the first couple of episodes. I hardly ever watch original anime series, usually I just go for manga and light novel adaptations but I liked the synopsis and thumbnail so decided to give it a go. ID: Invaded is a Mystery/Sci-Fi anime. It’s set in a world where detectives can enter criminals consciousness (ID-Wells) to avoid tragedies and solve cases. It centres around crime solved by Sakaido (酒井戸) / Akihito Narihisago, one of the few detectives who can successfully use ID wells. It’s not until a couple of episodes in that you start to understand what is going on but it’s worth the wait.  The crime scenes are very graphic and the storyline is quite dark so I wouldn’t recommend it to someone who likes light-hearted and easy to follow plots. Although the storyline is nothing like it, vibes wise, this reminds me of Inception – you have to concentrate, it has a complex plot (in my opinion), it’s sad and for me, it’s very intriguing.

The ending theme (ED) ‘Other Side’ by Japanese guitarist MIYAVI is quite different from the other covers I’ve arranged on the harp but I really wanted to cover it as it was so hard hitting for me when I first heard it. This arrangement was a workout for me – definitely a challenge – but quite a lot of fun. I definitely stray from the original: I play this in the key of A-flat minor, the natural minor key of the pedal harp to get the most sound out of the bass and I add some of my favourite techniques such as triplet runs and harmonics alongside fast octave runs and jumps which my fingers are still recovering from.  It was great fun capturing the energy, excitement and darkness of this piece and reflecting a rock styled piece on the harp.
