Calling this arc farmland saga is a joke but it’s not a bad thing this is actually one of the most in depth character arcs in the series and my personal favorite
Harald is currently the king, he is the older brother of Canute
Also it's not necessarily that Thorfinn was there when Einar's village was burned. It was just showing that he felt complicit it the actions taken by the Danes and was reliving it from the point of view of his "innocent" eyes before he was desensitized to it all.
Yeah. Probably his daughter
She is a slave and his son will be a good person and take over his father's farm
The 50/50 split comes from whether or not you’re an action junky or not. I absolutely love action sequences, awesome fights and drama, but people have said that this season is a lot of build up and development as well, which I also love. So the people who don’t like this arc or call it boring are the same people that only watch action based anime.
Farmland saga???? More like PEAKLAND saga
This is where thorfinns story truly starts
I think the 50/50 divide on the community is that farmland saga has way less action than before but the character development and the story is absolutely stunning, so it depends on preference on whether you like story or action more. but this arcs story is incredible
Im sick of hearing farmland saga. This arc is fantastic and so are the next 2 arcs. Vinland has and always will be peak seinen manga and anime.
Right now, its King Harald who is king and Canutes older brother
Yeah, the arc is regarded as Farmland Saga even by the people who love it (me included) there's no negative connotation to it at all, quite the contrary. It's just kinda funny that a portion of a "Viking story" about farming has some of the most thought provoking and in depth character study's of any manga out there.
That 50/50 split you were talking about isn't really a thing, it's just the people who got into Vinland for the bombastic fights instead of the story and characters being mad at the story for… well, telling a story. It's not something like AoT where there's an actual 50/50 split because of the writing quality decline.
No farmland Saga was always good, I'd say even better than the first season since this is where Thorfinn's story truly begins. People are just bracing themselves for the negativity since most people are gonna be coming into this season thinking its gonna be anything like the first(all the crazy action, etc), which is just not the case. They are extremely different.
people who don't like this arc just a kid
Keep in mind. They are still buying back the price they had assigned to them arbitrarily by slavers. The slave owner is not a bad person but hes still not good for owning slaves. Its just a very grey approach to the topic that anime typically doesnt do
Thorfinn was not there
For those who are interested in reading along with the manga this episode adapted all of chapter 56 and the majority of chapter 57 (specifically 25/38 pages).
Something to keep in mind, the North Atlantic slave trade of Northern Europe during the 11th century wasn’t quite as dehumanizing as the later Trans-Atlantic chattel slave trade of the Americas. Slaves like Thorfinn and Einar (known as “thralls”, while non-nobility free-men were called “karls”) tended to have slightly more societal rights and upward-mobility opportunities, so for anyone wondering the Ketil dude wasn’t bullshitting Thorfinn and Einar about them being able to feasibly purchase their freedom back within 3 years.
As for how long Thorfinn has been a slave, while the exact amount of time he’s already been on Ketil’s farm is unspecified in the manga, the manga does specify that Thorfinn and Einar meet during late June of 1015 (and King Sweyn and Askeladd died in February of 1014), so Thorfinn can at most have been on Ketil’s farm for a little more than a year.
IIRC I believe even if the tenant farmer’s daughter had a bastard child with Olmar, it would still likely grant the tenant farmer family some upward mobility/social-connections and security, as acknowledged bastards still had some social standing (think of how bastards worked in Game of Thrones).
Since this episode didn’t adapt all of chapter 57, the roles of the two drunks weren’t defined yet, but it’s not really a spoiler to know what their jobs on the farm are. Those two drunk guys were “Guests”, basically mercenary soldiers hired as security-guards for the farm (so they aren’t part of the farm-hands like the karls who ate part of Einar and Thorfinn’s lunch).
To give context for farming back then, the average productivity ratio for wheat back then was only about 1 to 2-3, meaning for every 1 bag of wheat used to plant a crop, the average harvest would produce about 2-3 bags of wheat (giving a net productivity of about 1-2). So every bit of the harvest counted back then.
Damn thorkell swinging logs like a baseball bat, thorfinn, einar and the horse are dying with just one
I love that y'all are invested in this story cos damn is it something special and ain't it nice tho cos if you want shonen or action there's plenty of shows out there for that every season this is peak seinen right here and trust when the action hits it HITS!!!
whos the gitl in the thumbnail
Farmland saga is good to anyone that likes good storytelling,if you're a shonen fan and only like fights and powerups then you won't like this. Vinland Saga is a seinen it's supposed to make you think about life, not be action packed. If you want cheap entertainment then go watch fairy tale.
Its laugh When Anime Only Think Oh 😍 Cute Girl No It's Happy Ending .
Make You Heart Strong Nothing Goes Like You Think .
Haha man
The village was burned down twice once when Einar was a child and his father was killed and they rebuilt and again just recently when his mom and sister were killed. Thorfin is 19 and Einar is 20.
