Quintessential Workers: Megami no Café Terrace

Quite excited to pick up this new manga by Seo Kouji. Despite his…interesting reputation when it comes to the direction of his works, I have a lot of faith in Megami no Kafeterasu. It’s the culmination of everything he’s done over the past 20 years, and it seems like he’s going to take extra care of this manga.

A light-hearted rom-com that centres around the theme of family.

  1. I've been keeping up with megami no cafe for a while. Seo Kouji certainly took inspiration from the quints but I don't mind. It's a good read nonetheless.

  2. I like the direction you are taking by talking about various topics and titles you enjoy or are interested in.

  3. i've not heard of this series i gotta check it out thx also hope u cover my dress up darling one day love that series so far.🙂

  4. I read half & half manga it's my favourite manga but if you are looking for more manga content I like you review on Brother for rent aka rental onii Chan it's very emotional short manga which is only 20 chapters I would appreciate if you review that manga

  5. YES. I always felt the same way about Seo Kouji. I love that he tries to make dynamic stories that don't waste 300 chapters in a loop of will-they-won't-they without any meaningful progression, but the result unfortunately is turning the characters into gutless/selfish assholes that I don't care about anymore. I think that the manga that really nails this dynamic is Good Ending, but I don't see this type of romance really often, so thanks for the recommendation!

  6. I put off reading this since I always got major QQ vibes(not in a good way) and it always seemed that it was just another rip-off trying to replicate QQ's success.

But seeing this video, I might give it a try since Romcoms are also my "low-key" favorite genre

  7. I've been following the manga for months and in part it does have a certain resemblance to the quintuplets, but it does it better and its characters feel more realistic, to the point that I like almost all of them, I just hope it doesn't end like Negi did Harubafag.

It's good to have you again.

  8. Now I have definitely been reading Seo Kouji works in the past, I definitely read the entire manga of Fuuka (and the Fuuka Special Edition which is a eye-opener 👀) which a lot of people seem to hate on, but I personally don't think its that bad 😅 in my opinion. I have tried reading Half&Half, This Town Where I have lived (not the correct title probably) and Suzuka but have not gotten around to it. Now I am trying to catch up to Hotmail and now this Cafe no Megami. Although while Suzuka was his first major hit but the rest of his manga what the real problem really stems from is stretching out the manga for the sake of drama, and keep using the old rom-com clichés that he is uses from the 2000s and adding fanservice for the heck of it, it just ruins his manga for the most part.

  9. Just recently got into this series, and honestly, I'm loving it much more than QQ, and it's really thanks to the MC, Hayato. I noticed just how much of an inactive character Futarou can be to the overall story, which is so obvious when compared to Hayato, who is very much given focus and actually feels a lot more real. Like, I enjoyed Futarou, but he's really not that special in terms of a harem MC. It really shows what a competent MC does to the overall enjoyment of the story.

I have to say, I actually like all 5 girls in Goddess Cafe, which I'm surprised by. In QQ, I always favored a quint or 2 over the others, or just didn't like 2 of them. Character wise, I'm loving what Seo Kouji is bringing into Goddess, cause it shows his experience with RomComs. I'm so glad Ami is not like Yotsuba. I'm glad Seo didn't give her any complexity beyond handling of family situations, unlike Yotsuba's very obvious issues.

Honestly, a ton of issues I have with QQ are rather not the case with Goddess, which I'm rather ecstatic about. Sure, it may be more trope heavy, but the execution is very solid that it doesn't bother me. I know I made comparisons, but really, Goddess so far really gives us just how much QQ lacks in its characters and overall narrative. I actually don't mind with who Hayato ends with, and honestly, I'm positive Kouji will deliver given his expertise with the genre. Can't wait for more!

  10. Kinda surprised to see this being covered consider Seo’s reputation. I really enjoy all his work especially Fuuka being my favorite manga ever. So far this manga is one of his best

  11. I love you're videos my dude. Hope you do a more in depth character analysis on this manga. Especially with best girl Akane. Also if you could please respond what do you think is the percentage of this manga getting an anime.

  12. I just started reading about a half month. I'm really am enjoying this story, unlike all other harem manga this one a bit different. Though i was a bit disappointed with 1 chapter giving the reader a clue of who he ends up with.

  13. I'm a sucker for Seo's stories and Kimi no Iru Machi is still one of my all-time favorites. I liked Hitman, Fuuka, Princess Lucia and Half and Half. Megami no Café Terrace is also a good read and I like the characters. I say this as someone who lived a really insanely fun lifestyle as a teenager who found himself in a punk rock band with older guys. I grew up fast and I understand some of the same things that irritate other readers. Crazy shit happens in real life, too – and we do crazy things when we're young and in love. Seo writes about the crazy stuff and I love it.

  14. Everyone keeps on saying this is like QQ but nobody even remembers Love Hina? The opening chapter is almost the same even.

  15. I watched the anime for Suzuka and the MC drove me up the wall. I was curious how it ended so I read the summary in Wikipedia and thought I'm glad I didn't read the manga as IMHO it was just disappointing how the characters were handled. I thought I would check some of his other works only to find out they were a prequel and a sequel to Suzuka, which I already didn't like. Fast forward to goddess cafe terrace, so far I have been pleasantly surprised at how well it's been going. The MC is by far one the greatest characters I've seen, the girls are beautiful and the way they fall in love with the MC is compelling. This just might be Seo Koji's best series ever.
