We dropped points for the first time at home this season, having to settle for a goalless draw against high-flying Newcastle.

In a game that threatened to spill over at times, we found the visitors hard to break down, and their keeper Nick Pope made a huge save late on to deny Eddie Nketiah.

However the draw extended our unbeaten run in the Premier League to 11 games, and inched us another point clear at the top of the table.

The atmosphere inside the Emirates was befitting a match between two of the top three teams in the Premier League, and we looked to feed off that energy early on.

Within the opening five minutes Martin Odegaard volleyed over when well placed, Bukayo Saka drew a save from Nick Pope at the near post, and Granit Xhaka fired into the side netting after a rapid counter-attack.

We were looking sharp in possession, carrying on the momentum from our New Year’s Eve performance at Brighton. The first 20 minutes fairly flew by.

Xhaka pulled a shot wide after excellent work by Nketiah to fashion the chance before Gabriel saw a looping header drop just the wrong side of the upright from an Odegaard free kick.

In an attempt to gain some control Newcastle started to break up play with a series of offences, and the referee Andrew Madley was struggling to keep the game from bubbling over. He issued five yellow cards in the first-half,

Newcastle came out of the blocks strongly in the second half, and Callum Wilson couldn’t quite connect with a low cross after a mistake by Aaron Ramsdale.

Odegaard then flashed a shot over after being set up by Xhaka and Martinelli had a curler straight at Nick Pope.

Newcastle were increasingly sitting back, soaking up pressure and looking to catch us on the break. Nketiah was battling well up front but was often crowded out.

We kept searching for the breakthrough. Martinelli glanced a header wide at the near post from a corner with Pope beaten.

Pope made a tremendous save with five minutes remaining to keep it goalless. Nketiah spun in the box and aimed for the bottom corner, but the United keeper stretched and saved with his leg.

We had a huge penalty shout turned down in the final minute, but the goal wouldn’t come, and for the first time this season we failed to find the net.

  2. That was supposed to be a penalty,it seems the ref just wants to break our team spirit,he shall not succeed.
A big applause to the fans for their rallying and cheering to our players
    Arsenal,we can win the league

  3. English ref are just anyhow why don't you award those penalties
Two different occasions of a potential penalty while non was review is there not VAR in the match
I am totally disappointed in the officiating of the match and I will say the referee is biased

  4. We had a very good game, unfortunately we couldn't convert our chances to goals

  5. Nketiah really lacks presence and intensity, he does not rush defenders off the ball, I really feel he could press a bit harder. We desperately need another decent striker. Martineli was absent, and I feel Odegaard should have been replaced in the early parts of the second half, my man of the match was Zinchenko/Saka

  6. Terrible game from Arsenal, they didnt know which direction to run. Hopefully this is not the beginning of going back to how we played for the last 10 years, that would be too sad

  7. Arsenal, please, buy Mudryk! Hello from Ukraine! Still begging you for this! Don't disappoint ukrainian football fans)

  8. Big chance missed. I can't believe that we didn't give Fabio Vieira a chance especially when you consider how creative he is.

  9. EVAN NDICKA (LB), EDMOND TABSOBA (RB), IBRAHIM SANGARE (CM/CDM), YOURI TIELEMANS (CM), MOUSSA DIABY (RW), DANI OLMO (LW/CAM). WE JUST NEED THESES 6 PLAYERS IN TWO WINDOWS AND WE WILL DOMINATE FOR 5 YEARS STRAIGHT. @ARSENAL

  10. Saka is my all time favriout player and he is so inspirational to watch I would die to one day meet him

  11. If Saka pass the ball to incoming White, he could be fouled by penalty bu Newcastle defender or drag the defender to him yet would pass the ball for Martinelli or incoming midfielder later on… felt like it could be a win

  12. This will be the starting point of Arsenal bottlejob.. will lose against Spurs next.. then continue dropping points just like the previous seasons..same old same old..

  13. Jika wasit seperti ini tidak d beri sanksi sangat mungkin terjadi lagi di pertandingan berikutnya, kualitas wasit seperti ini tidak layak memimpin pertandingan liga Inggris👎🏽

  14. Your manager is a complete embarrassment jumping around Klopplike 😂 We will turn yous over again at SJP like last season ⚫️⚪️⚫️⚪️

  15. we are competing with Man City (no disrespect) not Southampton, City just won a match last night by bringing on three subs worth 200 Million in total what have we got on the bench! We must Sign Mudryk or the title challenge is gonna be painful, he ain't Nicolas Pepe don't worry !
