It’s time, viewers, way beyond fashionably-late, we have tried out #slapchop …. with no half measures! This speed-painting technique has built up momentum fast, helping people produce Warhammer 40k, Warhammer AOS and all miniatures at lightening speed.

Byron picked a big, scary model – the Warhammer Bloodthirster of Khorne. This large, intimidating piece is a perfect example of how the #slapchop technique can quickly produce an impressive result.

HOWEVER… The technique definitely has shortcomings, we asked you for your problems with the technique before we started painting:

– Metallics
– Chalky drybrushing
– Desaturated ‘dull’ colours (lacking vibrancy)
– What to do with flat/large areas
– How to fix mistakes
– Do you have to basecoat black?

Thank you so much for watching, if you found the video useful please consider subscribing, and leave us a suggestion for a follow-up to this video.

The most liked suggestion will win a brush set, and texture-palette of their choosing!

  1. What did you think of the longer format guys? For a chance to WIN A SET OF BRUSHES leave your suggestions for follow-up content below 🙂

  2. I’ve been thinking of what it would be like to dry brush colours onto a base coat. Maybe for creatures like dragons or monsters with feathers. Maybe like a second dry brushing after the first one and the base coat. Then finish off with highlights. Not sure if it would turn out like tho

  3. A great follow up would be lighting effects without an airbrush. Say from fire or power weapons. Also a smaller follow up, barrel burns / effects. Massively helpful and well put togeather video, thank you for all the great videos over the years. Keep it up brother.

  4. Longer format is great, can never complain about more content. As a new painter everyone always hypes up the strengths of a method, but I would like to see some talk about it's weaknesses and what you can do to mitigate them. Also brush care using generic product would be welcome.

  5. Any word on when the backlog on brush orders will go out? I've had mine ordered since Thanksgiving and still no update or word.

  6. I'd like see a video on how you use your tools. How do you set up your palette. How do you clean your brushes and palette between paint. Those behind the camera things that can make life and learning your technique easier.

  7. I want to see a follow up where you use different undercoat colors on multiple copies of the same model then use the same contrast paints on top, to actually show the differences in outcome.

  8. Would it be worth the time to base-coat different areas in different colours, on the same model. Eg, dark green for ork skin and then brown for the leather coat? This could be a good follow up.

Sorry if you answered this in the second half of the video. Just watch the first half while feeding my baby boy at 2am and going to watch the rest in the morning.

  9. I got your dry brushes while I was at Adepicon but you were out of the texture pallets, so I've had to go without… well I've finally ordered one, along with a few S series brushes and some dirty down rust and moss… alas I have to wait for them to come from across the pond, but i'll be happy when they arrive… thanks for sharing your knowledge, I've been a long time fan and love your process!

  10. Apologies if you mentioned this in the video or if it's been asked, but what are you using for a dry palette?

  11. If you people want a good suggestion for some follow-up content, how about we go for the smaller-scale minis? I would like to see you guys paint something at 6mm, 10mm, or 15mm scale

  12. If you ever do a follow up on this video I want you, and everyone in the world to know. the best purchase you can make is just contrast medium.
it mixes into every paint you already own and like the colors of. then that paint behaves like contrast. and typically in a way you'll anticipate, as opposed to the contrast paints which behave like washes.
you'll drastically cut down on the need for contrast paints if you try this

  13. I love the long format. I'd love to see other videos that go into depth like this, for instance with airbrushes, batch painting, etc.

  14. Could you do a follow up video about what you should work on after you get the hand of slap chop. I would love to see how the foundation of slap chop changes how people get to the next level in their painting journey.

  15. What about using two different colors in the middle step before going back to the white? Especially for folks trying to cover large surfaces.

  16. I am not afraid of longer content, love it. Would like to see a range of base color for effect…such as how to turn blue to ice or that gross flesh you mentioned. Oh, how to do this with various flesh colors!!

  17. I Love the big videos every once in a while. Not sure how many or how often but deffinatly a few smaller ones in between with a deep dive like this every once in a while. I would love to see a stippling followup deep dive and a shorter "next steps" for the blood thirster.. Ihave an old Baleful Lords army of Bloodthirsters and I layered the first but don't know if I have it in me to layer the rest.

  18. I'd love to see how you apply your techniques to 28/32mm scale miniatures.

I've been slowly modeling my painting after you guys, and you doing a slap chop video was very high on my list of hopes. So I'm super happy.
