The first season of Darker than Black was a power fantasy that stood out with its world-building and phenomenal cast of relatable characters. Unfortunately, its second season failed to live up to this standard, but that raises the question, “Was season two really that bad?” Well the answer is yes and no, as some aspects of season two contradict the established plot-lines from season one, while other aspects enhance the returning character arcs.

Overall, the season two experience will likely vary for each viewer, but I personally found the new additions much greater than the sum of its faults (if you exclude the flying car). So give season two a go and make your own opinion about the show instead of having some negative jackass (like me) dissuade you from a potentially enjoyable experience. Just remember to watch the four episode OVA (Kuro no Keiyakusha Gaiden) before you begin season two.
