Fate/Zero ED – Manten (Piano)
Song: Manten / 満天
Original Artist: Kalafina / カラフィナ
Anime: Fate/Zero / フェイト/ゼロ
Piano arrangement by eLEDiem
Hello! Here’s my arrangement of the ending song from episodes 18 and 19 of Fate/Zero. I played Manten for a Fate/Zero 10th Anniversary medley with some really great pianists 🙂 Check it out here: https://youtu.be/4qzPG0I9R_w
Like most of my recent videos, I spent a lot of time changing my mind on how to arrange each part and using muscle memory to fill in the gaps lol. Here’s a detailed description for each section:
Intro pt. 1 ~ 0:00 – 0:26
From the beginning of this song, I was already excited for how much three-hand potential it had. I started off using my right hand to play the accompaniment an octave above the original version to make the bell part sound as light and delicate as possible. Then for some variation, I shifted the accompaniment to the left hand while thinking about the opening section of Animenz’s Unravel.
Intro pt. 2 ~ 0:26 – 0:47
It took a while to get this section synchronized, but it was so fun once I could finally play it comfortably. I did a lot of three-hand here to capture the feeling of the original piano part with my right hand while playing the melody and accompaniment with my left.
Verse pt. 1 ~ 0:47 – 1:33
This part was almost entirely muscle memory; I just made sure to emphasize certain beats where the bass and background piano were playing in the original song. However, at 1:29, I experimented with some falling arpeggios that pass all the way from my right-most finger to my left-most finger as a lead-in to the next section.
Verse pt. 2 ~ 1:33 – 1:48
There were a lot of repeated notes in the original melody, so I added in some pretty arpeggios to make it flow better.
Chorus ~ 1:48 – 2:03
In contrast to the light and sparkly feel of the previous section, I tried making the chorus as powerful as possible by using a lot of octaves, focusing on the extreme ends of the piano rather than the middle register, doing a lot of jumps, and adding some mini basslines that either ascend or descend (e.g. left hand at 1:51, left hand at 1:55).
Post-chorus ~ 2:03 – 2:18
Each song in the collab was supposed to be under 3 minutes long. Since the original song is 5 minutes long and has a lot of drastic key changes, I spent a while trying to figure out the best places to cut the song. Thankfully though, this mini key change served as a nice connection to the bridge.
Bridge ~ 2:18 – 2:48
I tried to make this section even more powerful than the chorus, so I used all of the same techniques and added some arpeggio spam in both hands. This was another section that worked out nicely in terms of key changes because this part ended in the same key as the final chorus.
Final chorus ~ 2:48 – 3:02
Nothing new here, same techniques as the chorus and bridge to tie everything together. I experimented a little with separated octave chords in the right hand but decided not to include them since full chords sounded more powerful.
Ending ~ 3:02 – 3:24
Like with verse pt. 1, I didn’t listen for the exact notes and timings in the original song, but I tried to capture the same overall feeling lol.
