They are second years. Only Ishigami is on the first year. The student council election is in the middle of the year. I don't know if the council goes until the first half of next year or if they have two elections for year
Kaguya, Ka-Guh-Ya, not Ka-Goo-Ya.
So I had to look it up when I heard about the Japanese story of princess Kaguya, since there are some similarities. But no the moon princess Kaguya is not the same as the Chinese moon goddess Chang'e (in Smite 😎), though both stories involve a tragic love story and elixirs of immortality.

A little bit of context. It is currently around September. Summer break was all through August, and school starts for them in late March/ early April. The student council annual session ends in autumn and elections happen right after.
Never a dull episode when Kaguya gets taken down by her own games. She's so cute.

((In Japan, school starts in springtime. Just being back from summer break means they still have at least half a year left in this year))
The student council election cycle doesn't seem to line up with the school year, though, so a student council in this show would last from the start of fall to the end of summer, or something like that. I guess that makes sense: it gives 1st-years the chance to run for office and encourages 3rd-years to not run so they can focus on getting into college instead
Great episode with Chad Miyuki. Also about the movie ticket, unfortunaly it wasn't adapted, but they did go in the manga. So if wanna read the scheme and understand what happened, it's chapter 2-3.
