Vinland Saga: Farm/Slave Arc Timeline | Season 2

After Askeladd slashed the head off of the King of Denmark, Canute was set to rule England. But it did not come without its challenges. After the events of season 1 of Vinland Saga, we head directly into what’s known as the Farm/Slave Arc; which constitutes the bulk of season 2 of the anime. In it, we are introduced to a new character, Einar, who gets sold into slavery and eventually meets Thorfinn. This review/timeline video covers the major events of the farm/slave arc in the manga, giving a concise explanation of the best fights, new characters (like Snake, Keitel, Thorgill, Sverkell, and many others)…What are your thoughts of the 1st season of the Vinland Saga anime?–And are you excited for season 2?

    Your diatribe at the end is kinda antithetical to what the manga is proposing. Canute was born to a king, Thorfinn inherited the genes of the strongest Viking ever, and yet you blast Einar for being lesser than them. Einar was born to peasants. You call Canute and Thorfinn "higher men", but you forget that they won the genetic lottery and Einar did not. He is not a mediocre man at all, neither is he weak. Canute did not "establish a life for himself", he was literally born into royalty. Einar is right to ask him "Why do you think you are a superior man to me?" and using the idea of working a field as an equalizer makes a lot of sense. You defend the system of inequality we are born into, but an idea is not right because Nietzsche says it is. All men are born equal and to each is given a gift with which they should contribute to society. We created inequality.

    The ending rant was embarrassing to listen to. It almost made me unsubscribe. Not only do you make laughably bad ethical leaps in your examples from the real world but your rant doesn’t even make sense in universe. Canute was literally useless all of the war arc. He isn’t exceptional by any stretch of imagination. If he wasn’t born in the right place, he would have been dead a hundred times over by now.

    i don't believe you are right in saying canute is just because he has power, and his ends justify his means. yes, a hierarchy will always form in humanity, but that does not mean those at the bottom should suffer. at the end of the day, nobody was born with the genes to be a scientist or a ruler, these were not things nature was interested in. we create the hierarchy ourselves, and that's why we should be ruthless in our criticism and control of it. the hierarchy is humanity's choice, not a natural law. ideally, we want a world where everyone at every level can be happy and content with their role, and everyone can achieve their actual full potential instead of being pushed down by a society which pretends they are not good enough. simply put, if somebody suffers, you are doing the wrong thing. einar did not make a bad argument in telling canute to till his own farms, honestly. it would have taken at most a year for canute to start turning a profit on his own farming endeavours considering he is a king. not only that, his farming could have raised job opportunities for many which would have boosted england and denmark's economy and peace. at any rate, thorfinn's ideals have been the best in the series from the end of the farmland saga arc. violence should be the literal last possible resort, and the suffering of others should be avoided at every cost that can be paid realistically. no matter nietczhe or any other philosopher opinions, to justify violence and suffering is a regression in humanity. to evolve and truly improve, we must do everything in our power to be a more happy and healthy species. thorfinn and thors' found the answer to humanity's path forward, and that's what makes them the heroes of the story. good and bad exist, and that scale starts with thorfinn and thors.

    I hate the direction the manga goes. I read the manga and I give the rest of this story a 5/10.

    Nah Einar was spitting facts.

    Watch Canute face the same fate as his father much like how Thorfinn is following in his father’s footsteps by running to a land out of the king’s reach etc.

    The author is clearly giving off ‘history repeats itself’ vibes because peeps never learn from history and see their own ambitions as more important than others’.

    You can restrain from violence but trying to be a pacifist in a wartorn world of slavers ain’t gonna end well for you or those you love (as seen by Thors and Thorfinn’s fates.

    You can attempt to defy higher power and forge your own fate but in the end you may end up just as dirty as those you resented.

    I haven’t read the farm arc so don’t know much about Einar’s ideals but he comes off as more of a realist. His opinions will probs get him in trouble but in the ‘confrontation’ between Canute and Thorfinn he seems to just say it as it is.

    Sure Canute’s doing it ‘for the greater good’ but he’s still making decisions that make him a bad person.

    The ends don’t always justify the means etc.

    Likewise Thorfinn seems naive and will probably end up having his ‘violence bad’ come bite him back later (either through losing more loved ones or just generally being unable to progress because he’s gone to the opposite end of violence that he once was).

    Again, haven’t read much with Einar so can’t say much about him.

    I just think both ideas of ‘pure pacifism’ and ‘making your own paradise’ are highly flawed and come off as pretentious, though that’s mainly due to peeps still needing to work through internal issues, which they both certainly need to do lol

    I mean you even said about having the strongest wolf lead the pack but this dude out here straight up hallucinating in a half Hamlet half Macbeth that if isn’t dealt by a psychiatrist (which they don’t have) is gonna end bad.
    He ain’t the strongest. He’s just got daddy’s name and enough charisma to back it up… for now.

    Idk, I hate peeps getting all philosophical because they never approach it realistically and instead do so idealistically in a way that will most benefit them to reassure themselves that they are right in the decisions and goals they have chosen.

    Not so bad when characters do it because (hopefully) they’ll realise that they still have some growing up to do mentally and become a ‘better person’- whatever that may be for the world they’ve been placed in.
