What I love about this anime is that there are no "real" emotional stakes. It's all a game and everyone knows it. The "antagonist" for this arc is just another player and react as any other gamer would when you realise you've just walked straight into death. "Haha, yeah. What am I gonna do now except die? Oh well… Next time perhaps"
