The Larks – Maggie Maggie Maggie (Out Out Out)

The Larks – Pain In The Neck

Phil and Pete became full-time members of The Larks and Pete Daws was brought in to replace Pete Walmsley. Inspired by the movie Stardust, The Larks bought an ambulance for transport. In April, we went into an eight-track studio in Hackney and recorded The Faith, All Or Nothing Girl, Ragged Claws, Love On The Dole, Please Dont Hide It, Kill Or Be Killed, Time Marches On and Teenage Reprobate. This session was released as a limited edition of a thousand cassettes entitled Here Is. At the end of November, we spent two days at Elephant Studios in Wapping, recording a demo of Billy Grahams Going To Heaven which began to attract some serious interest from record companies. Go!Discs were particularly interested but eventually signed The Housemartins instead. Maggie Maggie Maggie (Out Out Out) which we had recorded in one take at Elephant was released on the Miners Benefit LP Here We Go on Sterile Records. In December, Eric Coker deputised for Pete Cook who had to have his wisdom teeth removed. On Petes return, Eric was invited to join the band as a permanent member.

The Maggie Out protest song was one of the popular songs sung during the Miners’ Strike, student grant protests, Poll Tax protests and other public demonstrations that fell within the time when Margaret Thatcher was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

  3. First heard in 2016 on a tape i got off eBay. What a good track. Goes without saying that it didn't get in the top 40, the chances are she'd have had it banned if it did.

  4. By January 2025, we might be singing this in the USA, if a certain Son of…. is reinstated for a second term, despite his multiple indictments.

  5. Blue Jean film brought me here. Bet the demons of hell played this for her when she arrived in April 2013.

  6. While I'm one for Conservative politics in pretty much any country, this is a pretty good song. Greetings from America! 🇺🇸
