If you want to understand any locality in Japan, try the local ramen. We dropped into local favorite Shukaen, obligatory queue and all, where the soy sauce-based soup glistens with se-abura (pork back fat) and is paired with homemade flat noodles for a match made in heaven. Next time we’ll have to try the yakisoba, part of the secret menu available only at the Onomichi main shop. Chukamen (ramen), ￥600.
