多くのセレブリティー、アーティストたちのポートレイト写真やヴォーグ ジャパン2020年1月号表紙の撮り下ろし写真など、アーティスティックで美しい作品で魅了する巨匠ニック・ナイト。彼が今だからこそ読みたいと思う、心惹かれ、興味をかきたてられる３冊の本を自身のコメントとともにご紹介します。
Slide 1- ジェームズ・ロード「Giacometti: A Biography」を今読んでいます。アルベルト・ジャコメッティの作品には前々から魅了されていましたが、彼自身のことはあまり知らずにいました。彼の世界観を垣間見ることができるこの本は、アートディーラーのマイケル・ヒュー・ウィリアムズから勧められた一冊です。ジャコメッティの視点とアートをより深く理解できて、とても刺激を受けています。
Slide 2- マン・レイ「ポートレート」は、最近一番刺激を受けた写真に関する本です。マン・レイはピカソ、ブランクーシ、ダリ、ドュシャンなど、20世紀前半を象徴するアーティストたちを捉えました。彼は絵やフォトグラフィー、映像、彫刻、そしてパフォーマンスなど、さまざまな手法で彼らのポートレートを残し、その素晴らしい表現力に改めて魅了されました。この本を読むことで、過去のあらゆる場所に行ってみたくなります。30年代のパリや狂騒の20年代、ブランクーシのスタジオやジャン・コクトーの南仏のアトリエなど、クリエイティビティに漲ったアーティストたちを身近に感じさせてくれる一冊です。
Slide 3- Nancy Hall Duncun 「Histoire de photographie de la mode」- この本はフォトグラファーとして活動を始めた1979年から大切にしている一冊です。自分のヴィジョンを確認するときや、何かにインスパイアされたいときにこの本を開きます。この本は、80年代までの素晴らしいファッションフォトグラフィーの数々が掲載されており、ファッション写真がアートへと昇華し、どれほど文化に影響を与えたかを映し出しています。ちなみに、私が持っている本はモデルのペネロペ・ツリーにサインしてもらったものです。
Slide 1- James Lord “Giacometti A Biography” is the book I am reading at the moment. I have always loved his work but knew very little about him and this book was recommended to me by Michael Huw Williams and I am very excited to read it and lean more.
Slide 2- Man Ray “Portrait”- This is the best photography book I have read recently. Man Ray worked with and photographed virtually every major artist in the first half of the last century. From Picasso to Brancusi, Dali to Duchamp, Man Ray photographed them all. Extremely interesting to me is that he used many mediums, painting, photography, film, sculpture, even performance. Reading the book transported me to places I would have loved to have been. Paris in the 1930s, New York in the 1920s, Brancusi’s studio or with Jean Cocteau in the South of France.
Slide 3- Nancy Hall Duncun “Histoire de photographie de la mode” I have had this book since 1979 when I first started photography and it has been my companion ever since.If I ever need to keep my self in check or just see my medium at its very best I open this book.Simply full of the best and most important fashion photographs since the medium began. #Staysafe #Stayhome #VogueJapan
